Photographer’s Note
Typhoon Krosa hit Taipei today. In the approximately five years I have been here, this is the biggest storm I have experienced. When typhoons hit, it is quite usual to shut down government offices, schools and a few other places. This time, most small businesses were shuttered and they even shut down the MRT (subway) system.
Usually, typhoons end up being much ado about nothing, at least here in Taiwan. Today though, I think they actually made the right call in shutting things down. The wind was nasty and I saw on the news that there was quite a lot of damage. This morning though, we had hospital stuff to do, so we were out anyways. On the way home from the hospital, we stopped at Starbucks and this was taken from pretty much right in front of the coffee shop. The alley between the MRT station and the buildings seemed to be a real funnel for the wind and crossing was somewhat dangerous. People would wait on the other side until there was a lull and then dash madly across. Here, a group makes a dash.
I am happy to say that standing in this very spot, I was somewhat helpful today too. While making his dash, one middle aged gent got hit with a gust just before reaching the shelter of the building and tumbled. I was lucky to catch him, or he would have done a pretty good face plant. Maybe I will upload his photo into a workshop.

Hi Darren, nice action shot, good to have these guys running towards you and away from the frame, great crop on the left in this respect...
Cheers

Hi Darren!
My first impression when I saw your picture was that it was just about some young people rushing to cross the road... your note adds a lot to the picture. Also I like that you converted it in B&W which shows-off their face expressions.

Yeah, that's totally understandable to me, darren - an unusually fluid, free, unhinged shot from you, and very icel done my friend. The rain propels them ut they don't mind, they burst forth full of cheer and youth like a GAP commercial.
Bravo...

Hello Darren. A very alive and dynamic snapshot. Interesting also the face expression of the people. Very beautifully. Best regards, Wolfgang.

They look like they're almost enjoying themselves as they get soaked and wind-blasted! It's a very vivid storytelling picture. I like how the washed out gray background makes the people stand out. And they're very well arranged in the frame, not blocking one another, always tough to catch. Well done. Regards, Ken.

Darren saves the day! Awesome photo.. you caught the intensity of the moment, though perhaps a slightly slower shutter speed might have added a little more as well?
Before I looked at the workshop, I was thinking - gosh, that Darren is good, finding time to take a photo before saving the day! (not realising he was walking towards you)..
Love the workshop picture by btw.. deserves to be loaded separately, as you really caught the intensity of the wind in that one - he looks soaking wet, unlike this one. You could call it "wind beneath my trousers" :)
tick tock..tick tock. let us know when he/she arrives will you?
