OK, this pretty much sets the standard for cheesy lyrics to accompany a photo. I think the cheesy high water mark has now been set ;)
Here an OB/Gyn uses a high sensitivity microphone to listen for a baby's heartbeat. Now, hospitals are full of realy cool, high tech stuff. However, I am not sure if this particular piece of equipment qualifies. I am sure the microphone is expensive and high tech, but the speaker/amplifier unit it was plugged into reminds me of the very, very cheap pieces that are popular here, most often used by intstructors or tour guides who loop them over their shoulders and speak into a lapel mic to make their voices better heard. Unfortunately, the end result is usually just a loud version of distortion, better comprehension is not the result at all. The piece the doctor was using was far from high fidelity too, although if you want to hear a distorted, clipped version of a baby's heartbeat, it does work well enough. They beat fast...about 180bpm.
As for why I am in an OB/Gyn's office with my camera....

Very interesting image. The gift of life is truly the most beautiful experience. I tink you did a very fine job with this moment. The belly and the doctor remind me of one of those old painting found in my doctor's office. Good light and details. And yes, babies' hearts truly beat fast! Thanks Darren.

I have to stop and leave my thoughts here. You know I'm a sucker for anything sentimental and baby-related..(not in the cute baby related way). If I'm correct, wow! congratulations Darren - such good news. How many months is she? I anticipate more on your personal blog once she/he arrives..
The lovely sentiments which surround this image are justified by the picture. Its really very nice - Again, fairly bright, but I think this is nice and goes with the subject. So pure and - the environment, being clinical and all, I feel the brightness fits. I also think this would look very nice in black and white. My favourite parts are her hands - I like where they are positioned and his hands in relation to them. He looks like he is squeezing quite hard. The creases in his hand are a nice touch. I think my favourite-favourite is her foot though..
again, best.

Great angle for this shot Darren. the tight framing is perfect, everything is in the right place.
I'm curious whose baby is that ;-)

Beautiful, sensitive shot, Darren, makes for an interesting contrast with similar scenes recorded in Polonaises's gritty BW pics from Poland over twenty years ago. Again nice rosy, pastel tones from your Pentax lens.
What were you doing there y the way...?
Best,
Francis

Wow Darren, are you becoming a father? Or have you become one? This one is another lovely shot of the last stage of pregnancy, such as what George (Polonaise) has posted before. Here the colours are what give a totally different take on the same theme--that of listening... paying attention... expecting. The interplay between the hand of the doctor and of the woman, partly concealed, is beautiful, both manifesting a somewhat different state of mind--the woman's is that of expectation, anxiety, excitement; the doctor's, assuredness, calm, knowledge. If yours, may this be one of the most magical of experiences and the happiest moments, to be continued, Darren!
BTW, you posted the shot a day earlier than you took it. Well THAT is something extraordinary! :-)

just checking my e-mails and reading my te alerts, really late but i couldn't resist to comment.. well i guess your secret's out :-)... i like very much the magenta/pinkish colours, very fitting for the occasion... the four hands and the foot - as kaj also mentioned - are great... in fact i am wondering about a version where the doctor's face is cropped (you can see him on his id tag anyways)...
"wasted" yet another sunday... did you end up going to ximen ding?... by the time the rain stopped it was too late...

One of these moments you'll cherish in your memoirs...
Light and fluffy are your latest pictures…
I wonder…Is this a tendency or just quite simply - the theme of your photos dictated such approach?
You got close Darren to the very essence of existing…
Stay there brother, don't let them push you back into safe distance.
g.
PS: Congratulations and strong handshake…

Hello Darren,
Cheesy lyrics! :))) Oh well, every great man has the right to have a moment of weakness once in a while! Especially when something extraordinary is happening. And, as I understand, something extraordinary is on the making in your life. So, you are fully forgiven! :))
I really like the soft tones, here. And the plays of hands (and a foot, worth to mention!). And for sure, the belly, full of promises, full of Joy to come (and nights to be awake!). There is a softness in the photo that is not coming only from the tones. Tenderness would be more appropriate, I think.
Like some have already mentioned, this reminds me of this photo, and this one too, of George, only many years later. So, what has been high tech once never last long! :)
Claire
P.S.: I came to your gallery after reading what you wrote in that forum thread about the stealing of images. It's the most sensible and intelligent and reasonable I have read about that fact. You surely don't condone theft. That is quite clear. You speak about attitude. And your words are words of freedom to me. Thanks Darren. It is a real pleasure to read such wisdom...

Hi Darren,
I love those head cut portraits, and combined with the sweetness of coming child, giving a really touching image.
