Photographer’s Note
Another chess guy taken in Bitan/Green Lake, just outside of Taipei. This guy is quite unusual among the locals in that he was truly dressed for summer, while the temperatures were only in the mid 20s. For locals, I have seen winter coats being worn in such temps. This guy is much more like me, I am always in shorts.
I will add this to the playing sports portion of the scavenger hunt. Since western style chess is considered a sport, no reason why Chinese Chess shouldn't be as well.

I agree it is a sport! He dressed very well for a photography the bright shirt works well with all the palert colours, and so does his skin. It looks funny that there is no opponent, so he seems to be smiling to himself.

He certainly seems to be enjoying himself and doesn't seem bothered by the cold. I like the colouring of this.

Hi Darren,
I really like your "chess series" (i may try one of my own). I like your compo giving the man a full frame and the chess board at the corner - for me you captured the essence of the game (in which the real thing is in the head). Great stuff

I like the posture of the man, but I think a wider angle to include the board as well would make the shot better, IMO. The man is now a bit isolated from the rest of the scene, or you could make a real portrait by zooming in a bit further. I think you hesitated a bit between a close-up portrait or try to capture a wider view of the scene.

What jumps into your eye is the concentration and at the same the enjoyment written al over his face. You isolated this here perfectly with not too much of disturbing thing. The hint of the chess-board matches here perfectly. Neither any disturbance of the processing of the photo, good colorbalance and sharpness.
