Photographer’s Note

Haven't posted for a while; my mind is on different things right now. Anyways, here is a shot I took today. Traditional markets are all over Taiwan; every neighbourhood has one. This one is close to my house. Markets can have a lot of different attractions. All sell greasy, unhealthy, delicious food. Many sell clothes, household goods, knick knacks or whoknowswhat. Most markets also have amusements for the kids, be they rides or games of chance. It reminds me of the once a year Whoop Up Days we used to have in Lethbridge, but on a smaller scale and rather than 10 days a year, it goes on 365.

Here a young girl is advised by her brother in the roll the ball into the hole for points game. I hope she did well and maybe even got a stuffed animal out of it.

Great shot, very colorful and joyful with all those kids grabbing what's interesting for them. Great perspective also.

Nice study in DOF here, Darren, very accomplished and crafstman-like. It is not dramatic shot like sme of us go after with a kind of desperation ;o) but it's a very fine everyday life shot and in combination with your excellent note, a model TE upload IMHO.

Nice to see you posting again. I love the markets in Asia they are such vibrant places. Nice use of DoF and i love all those bright colours. Nice daily life shot.

I was beginning to wonder what had happened to you Darren. I almost sent you an email (almost)! Nice shot this with some nice colour and detail, although a bigger size would have been nicer.

The children's look of intensity and focus, to the exclusion of all the hustle and bustle around them (even photographers), is captured perfectly, Darren. It's reinforced by the shallow DOF that similarly excludes all extraneous activity. Well done. Regards, Ken.

Cute kids and great action shot (with the girl just having thrown the ball, and the ball is still visible in the shot)! Nice how you isolated them from the background.
