[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Visiting friends in an apartment complex in Taichung I walked through the lobby and into this courtyard. It had a very surreal feel to it, like they were trying to make it "green space" but didn't notice the 20 storey building around it. I took this one quickly and didn't think much of it until I saw it on my computer. I think it says a lot about Taiwan. Being a foreigner here, sometimes I feel like I'm trapped in a maze of metropolitan canyons. This picture sums up that feeling.

PS - Just for the record...This photo is 100% in color. I didn't desaturate it at all.

Hi Neil,
Very interesting POV, the image looks unusual, abstract (especially since you did not leave the opening parallel to the frame. The note is explanatory. Good work, TFS!
Season's Greetings,
Catalin

This is a great pic Neil. I've visited Taiwan and this scene is very commonplace in other Asian countires where living space is limited.

hey, I live in Taiwan and I think your shot is really cool, I've seen a few places like that, but don't remember one quite as constricted. I like the darkness of the buildings with it's obvious underexposure. It gives an extra sense of a trapped feeling. I do like the slit of openning in the left ofthe pic, gives it some contrast. Congrats.

Nicely done Wade, even at the risk of looking like a "tourist" for aiming a camera straight up the buildings huh? Fantastic composition, a very compelling image.

a dazzling hole

I love the light as it transitions from black to white at the center. The black and white is really great. What a great story this picture has to tell about city living.

J'aime beaucoup votre photo. L'exposition est parfaite et la sensation que vous décrivez est bien ressentie. Merci de l'avoir partagé avec nous.

I really enjoy the sharp, clean lines. I also like how they lead they eye to a single point in the center. And as DJSmack mentioned, the transition from white to black is excellent.

Nice perspective. The use of B&W adds to the "surrealness."

Hi Neil,
an other great shot in a different style, I'm more and more fan of these architectural compositions… and this one very is successful.
Our eye is guided to this exit towards the sky. Well seen
Regards
Philippe

Simple and to the point! Very stylish and clean. The vertical character of so many Asian cities continues to amaze me.
