Photographer's Note

The southern coasts of Sri Lanka were devastated by the tsunami of Boxing Day 2004. At Peraliya, a train was washed away by the waves, killing over 1500 people. The event is commemorated by this giant Buddha statue, based on the Bamiyan Buddha statue from Afghanistan - a World Heritage treasure which was destroyed by the Taliban.
