This picture shows a potentially idyllic stretch of beach in Kallady, near Batticaloa in the east of Sri Lanka. It's a fascinating place, but the rubble of the tsunami (26.12.2004) remains everywhere, as most boats in the area carry the logo's of their donors.

The sea is rough and the dogs not always friendly, lending a dark and desolate feel to this area, however idyllic in potential.

There's hope, but there's also lots of work to be done, still. A clean-up would be a start.

I guess these last two lines would apply for the whole globe, come to think of it.
