Photographer’s Note
One of the elephants gets some special treatment at bathtime. Most just stand around in the river but this one gets a shower. I saw another elephant lying down in the water to get a proper wash.
This is fourth in my series from the Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage.

Hi Jonathan,
Great shot! What an impressive herd of elephants. It must not be easy to take care of all of them. Why is this one getting special treatment ? Was it a play between the man and the elephant ?

Hi Jonathan,
What an excellent series you are presenting with these posts from the Orphanage. This big fellow must have been pretty muddy to warrant the special shower treatment! I like the clarity of the image and the way you have captured the man at the decisive moment. Great dynamics and a superb capture.

Hi Jonathan,
you've just taken the right moment. The whole amount of water is on it's way through the air. Good composition.
Kind regards,
Roland

Jonathan, c'est très impressionnant ces éléphants se baignant tous ensemble. Le premier bénéficie d'une douche et semble l'apprécier. C'est une scène pleine de vie.

Hi Jonathan,
you pressed the shutter at the right time.
After work, a shower is welcome, they are like humans ! ;-)
Well composed, nice daily life scene.
Well done

Hi Jonathan
Great capture - love the way the fast shutter speed has stopped the water in its tracks as the guy chucks it over the elephant.
Really like the composition too, with the great crowd of elephants enjoying their bath.
Cheers

Hej Jonathan,
Great picture of all those big creatures having a bath in the river. You got them all nicely in the photo. The man giving one of them a shower is a very nice detail! Well done.

Hi Jonathan,
I always thought elephants could shower themselves using their trunk (must have seen too many of those cartoons when I was a kid)! ;-)
The number of elephants here is impressive and the men around them look tiny. I llok the way you've captured the moment the water is flying out of the bucket. Great light too!
Have a nice day.

I think this is the best of the four. The exposure is spot on, the action of the man throwing the water is timed to perfection, and the colouring is just right. My photos of this scene aren't as good, so you'll understand my jealousy.
Great work

Perfect timing! You managed to catch this at just the right time and get the water in mid air and the bucket still extended. I also like the off centgre main subject and the way the rest of the elephants are grouped. Great work!

Hello Jonathan,
The compo and PoV is really good, that you've captured all the elephants with only minor overlapping. I also like how you froze the water that the elephant got sprayed on. Very informative documentary picture. TFS.

Hi Jonathan - great timing, the water cascading down the elephants head really makes the shot here, maybe I'd crop the opposite shore off the very top to have water all around, maybe...

Another nice bathtime scene of this big animals. I like to see the contrasts bettween the diferent tones and colours on them. Good timming on the captured of the 'special treatment'! It would be nice to see a closer one of this dynamic movment...
Well done!

Hi Jonathan,
It looks warmer than Afghanistan ;-)
A superb daily life scene caught right into the action, this excellent timing with the splash makes to me the force of the photo, I like too your good framing of the scene that's just a tiny bit too tight on the left side.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves
