Photographer's Note

Kandy is the second largest city in Sri Lanka with the population of 120,000 people.

The town was constructed in the middle of the 14th century, and in 1592 it became the last capital of the Shinhara dynasty. It prospered as a capital until Great Britain made it surrender in 1815. The town is 500m above sea level and enclosed by mountains. That limited the access and being a natural stronghold it prevented Portugal and the Netherlands from invading.

The mountains that enclose the town maintain a rich green landscape. They create delicate ups and downs with light and shade of green bringing in the atmosphere of one small world without a sense of isolation.
