Here's the interior of one of the caves of the famous Cave Temple in Dambulla that I posted earlier. This is a World Heritage Site with 153 Buddha statues, statues of goddesses, murals and paintings dating back to the 1st century BC.
The historical value of this artwork is obvious.
There's also one more thing why I find this pic remarkable. I shot it almost in complete darkness, the only light came from the hidden lamps along the perimeter of the cave, it's handheld and no flash.
Sure it's not perfect but if you look at the crazy iso number and try to imagine the usual amount of noise associated with it you'll understand my delight here:))
Well, I'm not that kind of person who enjoys running around with a tripod, setting and waiting for endless exposures. I prefer everything done quickly but well enough. So I find this low noise performance at impossibly high iso absolutely outstanding. Just what I need:))

una foto eccellente sia per la particolare illuminazione che evidenzia molto bene il soggetto sia per la composizione che definirei perfetta.
Ottima la nitidezza e molto ben curato il colore.
Bravissima. I miei complimenti!

A very fine interior shot, superbly exposed for both the shadows and highlights. You did a great job of processing the photo for display here, given the high ISO and low light. It really looks sharp and the colours are rich. Your note is also very informative. Well done.

Sensational composition with the interior of this cave-temple of extraordinary beauty, fabulous collection of Buddhas and beautiful painted ceiling.
Thanks to the good quality of the image we can enjoy it all.
Beautiful colorful and magnificent lighting, plus a perfect sharpness.

This has turned out so perfectly, no tripod and no flash? One of these gods was on your side that day! I am like you, and never carry a tripod, and I would be so happy with this result!
As for the place itself, wow..... Incredible to think this level of wondrous detail goes back to the 1st century, and for it to be positioned inside a cave. Incredible artwork, and for its age doubly so. Great shot, thanks for sharing.
All the best

A fabulous indoor shot of a much more reserved, contemplative and the temple ambience create a special mood. A profound strong look and serenity in a state of pure calmness that you have obviously caught in a moment of so much peace reflected with gorgeous side lighting which bring out the textures and colours so well. This is a remarkable shot finely crafted to perfection, Congrats.

very nice the cave Temple with the lot of statues to make the place so beautiful and unique.I like the excellent light management as brings out the details and the beauty of the place.

I understand you because it is not common that I carry my tripod, so the possibility of turning up the ISO number is just great.
(I have also been using a MkIII and can't believe the results when using ISO 6400 or 12800 -like you did here- in interiors).
The light and colors look very natural, and at least in my notebook's screen, I am no able to see noise.
Well done Marina, and good you took the chance!

For some reason the EXIF data for this shot won't load, so I don't know what ISO setting you used; suffice to say that modern cameras have pretty much overcome the problems associated with the extremes of noise these days. This is a very interesting image, shot as you describe, under demanding lighting conditions. I love the deep shadows and strong modelling on the foreground Buddhas. Good work.

You done a great job

It seems a really interesting temple. Light can be really difficult in such places sometimes but you got a very good result with your very high ISO. We can hardly notice any noise and the details inside the cave are great. I like it!

You did a very good attemp here to create good atmosphere, the light circumstances are not easy at all,i like the light and shadow play in the cave.
Good night from the Netherlands.

Trip to Sri Lanka is one of my travel dreams for next year so, with a great pleasure, I am reviewing your gallery. This one captured inside the temple is well executed even the poor light conditions. The statues look amazing and made the scene attractive and interesting. TFS!

Hello Marina. Me neither I'm not the kind of person dragging a tripod around the globe. From the photo alone, I would have never guessed the "crazy iso number". Special "cave". Always interesting to discover another World Heritage site. I find the painted ceiling especially interesting. This is a very good and pleasant photo that gives the viewer a good idea of that special temple. Best regards, Claude.
