On our travels around Sri Lanka we stopped by a small craft centre. In an ill lit and tiny workshop this elderly man spent his days making wooden items for the tourist trade. The shot is not of the best quality but was quickly taken under ambient light which I found attractive, the ISO is bumped right up hence the grain and the focus on the hands is not as sharp as I would have liked. However, for all that, I quite like the result.

In spite of the flaws (?) that you mention in your note, this picture does get the mood across. Quite good contrast too. Atmospheric daily life shot.
Have a fine weekend.

This image is almost monochromatic, presenting the artisan and his environment in a wide array of rich earth tones.
The ambient light and the way it falls on your subject creates a great mood and a sense of precious intimacy.
The tight cropping focus on the action and shows the concentration of that man and his craft.
Nice work Rosemary.
Have a pleasant weekend!

The result is excellent. The fact that it is taken in ambient light makes it more attractive. There is good detail on his skin and face and I really enjoy the hard crop that emphasises the light falling on the man. The colours are dark and natural. You captured the moment beautifully.
Best wishes, Ann

Yes the mood is well captured. His eyes are fixed on his wooden carving. Another elephant carving?

I don't find the picture so grainy, and the sharpness is good,as the movment was surely rather slow.Anyway, the atmosphere is splendid,I love the low light, the harmony of colors, and this is superbly framed.

a beautiful study of this craftsman. Perfectly sharp details and you have controlled the composition and light just perfectly. Captivating! Well observed and taken.

Splendid daily life composition with an good choice of framing and light management. I like the global brown tone with a touch of white under the light, the position of the man and his look. Really well done

you have so many wonderful shots, it was hard to settle on one. I really loved this one, though. Beautiful light, splendid color, great POV. I like the nice tight crop and the concentration of the artisan. The light is what makes it, though. Excellent! Many thanks and kindest wishes,

just checked your Sri Lankan photos and they're wonderful. I must say you had much better weather for shooting, I wasn't so lucky this time:)
Love this portrait, very artistic and with so much soul in it. Great play of light and shadows reveals quite an intimate moment of a master absorbed in his work.
Excellent result for a quick shot.
