Photographer’s Note

Admiral Yi Sun Shin's birthplace is said to be about where the Myongbo Theater (the narrow vertical blue rectangular sign in the back to the right of the triangular blue crossing sign) is in Seoul, Korea. Admiral Yi defeated Japanese Hideyoshi invasion of Korea (ImJin WehRahn: 1592-9) by making it impossible to supply the invading forces by sea. It's located in the ChoDohng sub-district of Seoul. During his time it was called InHyeonDohng a sub-district of HanYang(HanYang being the old name for Seoul). Of course, nothing remains of his birth place at this older part of Seoul.

We are looking down a major thoroughfare in the northern older district of Seoul. The street is called EulJiRoh (Roh means street or Rohd?:-). Eul Ji Moon Deok himself is the great KoGuRyo (one of the old Korean Kingdoms) general who defeated a massive Chinese Sui army invasion way before Yi's time.

Look a little conjested? The picture was shot in the mid-afternoon interspersed with monsoon showers. The business signs are vertical and attached to the buildings so as to have most effect upon pedestrians and the traffic. At night, the lighted signs make quite a sight in many neighborhoods.

Thanks for looking (and reading this far!)

(Minor post-PS, including sharpen filter).
