Photographer’s Note
Last Sunday was the Buddhist birthday celebrations in Seoul. I got out for the day and did some shooting.
I'm starting with my favourite shot of the day ... a Korean monk (distinguishable by their simple gray robes) was standing between me and the lanterns. I got a few shots.
The Buddhist birthday events were a lot of fun ... more photos to come! :)

Hey David,
Who can resist that juicy colourful bokeh, it makes a great background as the monk stares off in thought into the distance.

Hi David. I like the combination of the colourful background and his sharp face. I didn't know Korean has got much colourful colours when it comes to Festivals. A good capture of the monk.

There isn't anything I could find that I don't like about this shot. While I don't ever intend being negative, I figure that improvement is a big part of TE, so I try to suggest something when I can. But if you were to try to change something with this, I think it would lessen the shot. Simple and stunning. The big bright background works perfectly as a foil to the seriousness of the young monk, with his neutral gaze and his grey robes. I like that while he stands as a reminder to the more cerebral meaning behind a religious festival, still I can't help thinking that he's also quietly absorbing the meaning of the colors and the joy of the celebration.

hey dave
the colourful bg makes a superb contrast to the monks robes. the dof helps focus on the monk's details which are well presented. a great job you should really be happy with.
