Photographers Note
During the winter of 1956-57 I was in Korea as a lieutenant in the Turkish Brigade. I had my Leica and I carried it most of the time. This picture was taken on a very cold but sunny day which also happened to be a holiday. Hence the colorful dresses which can be seen on the children. This village was not too far from our compound and I always enjoyed to go and take pictures of the local people and houses. Unfortunately there was nothing left when I revisited the place in 2003.
This is a Kodachrome 64 which has retained it's colors and brigtness and has shown no defects so far after 50 years.

Hi izzet, my neighbour for the day.
This is probably the oldest picture I've seen on TE.
I couldn't beleive it is taken almost 50 years back and it looks sooooo goood. Great compo with the icycles and the colourful children. Fantastic document, I hope somebody looks at hours on TE in 50 years.

Superb shot, nicely framed by the icicles. Excellent composition. The inclusion of the people is a nice touch.

Hi Izzet,
I always love to see your Korea oldies, they look so true and vivid, even after all these years, they really impress me. Quality of this one is no exception, especially looking at the stalactites being so pin sharp, the whole view is very luminous thanks to snow and ice, deep up to the two styles of houses, I'm wondering what the children were thinking about your activities...
I heard you'll be moving around quite much in the coming weeks, enjoy your trips to Venezia and Geneva !

Hi Mr Keribar,
This picture is a documentary and its amazing that it was protected for half a century. I would like to see the colorful dressed children a bit closer, maybe so that I could see their faces.
Congratulations...
Ozaydin.

Belle présentation de la vie quotidienne. Jolie luminosité sur ce village enneigé.
Merci pour le partage.

The photo is hesitating between the landscape or descriptive photo and the souvenir snapshot. In the last case, the group of children is too far from the camera, and in the first case, it would be better that they were playing or passing but not looking towards the camera.

merhaba izzet,
an outstanding quality of the image considering when it was taken;
and a beautiful composition, seems like the heavy snow was nothing surprising there;
very nice work,

Amazing photo, Izzet - and again one that is more than 10 years older than I am. Beautiful to see this vivid colors, and a nice framing with the diagonal roofline from which the icicles are hanging. Fine blend of man-made and natural elements in the winter setting, and a charming add provided by the colorfully dressed children (I wonder what they would say if they could see this photo today, almost 50 years later).

İzzet bey, tam anlamıyla harika bir fotoğraf, 50 sene önce böyle bir eser ortaya çıkartabilmek gurur verici olmalı. Ustalığınız seneler öncesinden belliymiş, Subaylığı neden seçmiş olduğunuzu merak ettim..

Bonjour Izzet,
Excellent week-end.
Daniel.

Hi Izzet,
I am amazed with this photo, especially after I read the note. The quality is at par with any todays digital photo. And to have such a document of past times here on TE is wonderful. I can also compliment you on the composition & framing the scene with icicles.

Hi izzet
I live not far from Uijongbu, & have caught the #32 bus from Geomchon a few times to Uijeongbu Bukbu train station. You wouldn't recognise the place today. (417,915 people) The new VAL rail line going north from Uijeongbu Bukbu to ? (I forgot the name of the town, but it starts with a Y), should be open by 2011.

I've seen similar weather to this with icicles & snow, in the past month or 2, but no blue skies. Cheers!

Hi Izzet
best regards
daniel
