Photographer's Note
This is another shot from the "Ji-bul-nori" Festival. They had been preparing for this festival for a couple of weeks now and had set up quite a show. It is just too bad that it was raining all night. By the time that I got there, the fires were lit long before and people were leaving. Some just stayed around to keep warm by the massive bonfire that was slowly dying down.

Cool photo. Good silhouette, showing the umbrella's shaft, and the hand holding it. Wish the background had been a bit brighter on the top, intensifying the silhouette, but other than that. A good sharp photo.

Hi Jason, in a way it was a good thing it was raining. What a great silhouette you have with the man holding the umbrella against the oranges from the fire. It has great colour and contrast. It is an awesome composition.
Thanks, John

Hi Jason
Very good silhouette Il ike the orange look of the fire.
I think the picture will look better if you moved the subject to the left as he is looking to the right Just my opinion

Stunning image, Jason
Great outline of the umbrella man against wild flame that caused by the rain(that you said unlucky but on the other hand it made the guy hold his umbrella).
Well composed, good contrast and unigue POV.
Visually powerful.

Hi Jason,
This is simply WOW. Very timely capture.
Light and shade at its best in the given situation.

I think this one works much better than yesterdays post. The composition is better IMHO and the umbrella really ads a uniqueness to the photograph.
Many people should open the thumbnail. The flames appear to be silky smooth, a good photo.
Great Job.

Jason,
A dramatic Silhoutte...
Making the Silhoutte against a intense, dyamic BG is a wonderful idea.
Cheers,
Prem.

hey jason
a lot of people seem to like this shot over the previous one. i guess i must have missed something because i prefer the other one.
this shot has the same intense colours and texture. the contrasting symbols of umbrella and fire are interesting and unique. but from an aesthetic pov, i just prefer the other one. that glow that was on the man's face (not apparent here) is what sets it apart for me. still a good shot though, don't get me wrong...

Excellent idea Jason. This image just goes to show what can be acheived with planning coupled with technique. One of the most original and very well executed shots I've seen on TE in recent times. Excellent!

Just read one of the comments posted for this shot saying that it's pretty much the same as your other pic yet it receives more pointage. I think this one has a strong contrast in its essence. Fire and water, the two natures most powerful opponents. Just looking at these two shots side by side made me think of this. Maybe that is the reason why so many like it so much, including me. Nicely done sir.

Hi Jason,
I love this shot, the silhouette and the stance of the person holding the umbrella are great. The orange flames make for a spectacular backdrop, and there is also a wonderful atmosphere. Great work!

Wanda
