Photographer’s Note
Every other Hotel in Gwangju, South Korea, is crowned with an American Statue of Liberty. Gwangju, of course, is the city where the May 18, 1980 democracy riots took place, in which as many as 2,000 university students & civilians, were gunned down by the army & police, operating under the brutal military dictatorship of Chun Doo-hwan. Hello Chris,
A good point of view on this building which seems to be a strange mix of east and west architecture. Very good colours and clarity. Your note makes for an interesting commentary. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Chris,
An interesting clash of architecture here, Asian writing, Roman arches and columns, Islamic domes and capped off with a statue which symbolises the west. If it were not for the text I would have great difficulty trying to guess where this was. It is sad that such violence has taken place here and also that I was not aware of it until now. I like the quality of this image, and above all the richness of the blue sky and broken clouds.

Hi Chris,
good strong sharpness with a pleasant contrast of the background sky. Interesting mixture of different styles of architecture. No monument there? Or is it hidden history?

Nice shot of the hotel, with an angle that makes us look up and up and up! Very interesting about the Statue of Liberty being found on so many hotels there - I had no idea of that, but this is the kind of thing that makes TE so interesting. Thanks for sharing!

Bonjour Chris,
un tout beau ciel et un édifice qui s'y dresse majestueusement. La déformation de l'objectif donne plus d'impact à ce batiment, tu as à mon avais bien fait de ne pas la corriger.
Regards.
Daniel.

Hello Chris,
A totally other architecture than our Western buildings, but absolutely lovely.
Around the building we see different facades also a part oriental influence.
Composition and colours together with quality are very nice.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a nice weekend,
John.

Hi Chris,
I find this photo fascinating, this mixture of different genres and styles in architecture can also be found in Bangkok and in other metropolises in the far east : funny, a bit kitch... The statue of liberty I don't remember though, but a lot of tiny Eiffel towers on top of buildings there too (in 1993)...
TFS,
Cath.

Namaste Chris
Wondered about the statue atop of building...similarity was uncanny, then I read your note. A weird pot pourri of architecture here with Romanesque columns & arches, Islamic domes & the American iconic statue at top. A good quality image...thanks for sharing!
Regards
Angshu
