Photographer’s Note

In Korea there seems to be a vast generation gap, on which you could write a dissertation, but basically those koreans who were born before about 1970 and those born after possess a hugely disparate culture. One effect of this cultural divide is shown in this photograph. You can see the three younger men off in their own modern world of text messaging, cell phone games, or even watching TV, while the older man is just completely out of place and time. No cellphone, nothing to do on the subway, clothes out of date, and he even looks visibly uncomfortable, all with the world whizzing by. Much a reflection korean society in general.
