This picture from Singapore is from 1976. It may be one of the few parts of the city that haven't changed completely since then.

A very fine contrast netween old and new that you show here. The vertical format is perfect for this picture where you build the motive from the bottom. Very fine indeed!

Very nice contrast from the new modern buildings to the old traditional boats. I like the composition! Well seen and well taken!

Seems quite a contrasting scene: I see the boat as more traditional object, and rather tiny to that; on the contrary, the skyscrapers are very modern, dominating...
When will you be back, don't forget to show us your fresh pics!

the grandeur of modern high towers and a little man in a little boat...
I recognize this part of Singapore :) IMHO, it hasn't really changed much since the 70s. Though I didn't see so many boats there.

This is something very special to me, after 36 years the river has been transformed into recreational purpose totally new riverscape lively and vibrant at night. That highrise building, The OUB Building still remains with new refurbished look. On the right, the original low shop houses cum old godowns all remained intact but redeveloped into high end establishement such food court, rest, cafes, bars, clubs etc, very lively at night. For environmental reasons only electrical-driven engine boats are allowed to ply the water. The basin downstream river near the sea front is barricaded now called Marina Barrage, and converted into fresh water reservoir, vital resource for Singapore (thus we import less from Malaysia). These are some of the changes, in fact there are many more and the latest attraction, the yearly F1 Night Racing which is also held close to this proximity. So these wooden barges and boats were things of the past, the new generation and my children missed this nostalgic moment. Gert, with your permission may I copy and save this special picture into to my personal archive?
Thks once again for posting.
