Photographer’s Note
On 9th August 1965, Singapore gained independence from Malaysia. To mark this historic event, the city state initially celebrated on the Padang (current site of the Singapore Cricket Club), only to shortly thereafter move the festivities, fly-pasts and fireworks to the National Day Parade's current site at the National Stadium in Kallang.
We were observing the frivolities perched 16 floors up from a friends' apartment overlooking the Stadium. Our celebrations were limited to cold beer & pizza, the pizza being delivered many hours previous to the event to avoid traffic congestion.
Cropped and framed.
Regards,
Vic, Singapore. 9th August 2004

I like this shot. I hope the sun is really pink like this, this is why I looked at it. I like natural pictures, and except for croping a bit, when necessary, I don't go for changing colors and transform a picture with PhotoShop like many people do here. I don't mind if somebody wants to do a workshop on my pixs, but I think the biggest job is when you take the picture, no? We are not a photo-lab, working for magasines, are we?
And, also, I don't know why I mention this to you, I could put it on the Forum, but I am afraid to make ennemies (lol) and receive the silliest answers, (like copyrights, stolen pictures, etc), but as soon as I see a picture signed, with the name of the photographer, I think it is a bit ridiculous, and pompous, even if I like the picture, I don't leave a critique nor a point. we love to take pictures, that's all, and the name ruins every thing. What do you think, Vic?

Hello Vic, Ta photo est belle j'aime bien ta composition et les teintes de ce ciel presque totalement obscurci par la nuit. Amicalement/jr

Nice shot here with the combination of components (setting sun, flag, helicopters). Well done. However, I have a different philosphy than Mr. Lanagaloo and would make one suggestion; what would happen if you lightened (brought out) the flag just a bit. Dark as it is, it gets a bit lost in the background - and I thought was an Indonesian flag as the Singaporean markings have been lost. But nevertheless, good shot.
Cheers and keep shooting.

Nice shot Mr. Torkarski
It was shot with good timing, to capture the sun in there during the fly past...
I have to say, I do find the photo a bit dark.
The sky comes out nicely, but the flag just gets lost in the background. I would suggest adjusting this one by selecting everything apart from the sun, and brightening. Adding a bit of contrast may bring out more detail in the flag. If not- select the flag seperately and brighten.
I hope you find my suggestions helpful.
Happy Shooting!

Striking shot Vic, nicely framed, and the dark treatment works to good effect also. Points tomorrow.

Wow! Excellent composition. The colours and light are amazing! I have never seen the sun with that colour before. The placement of the helacopters and the flag is great.
Impressive shot.

I love the way we can clearly see the helicopters' rotors. The sun is also somewhat surreal... In other words, great pic!

Great silhouette shot, and good choice of the black border. The candyfloss pink sun is surreal!
