Photographer’s Note
5.46p.m. - This shot was taken during a rehearsal for the Singapore National Day’s parade. A few floats were lined up in front of Raffles Hotel and I saw this one with Parameswara standing at the bow aiming his arrow. He is to shoot a lion and that’s how the island came to be known as Singapura. “Singa” means lion in Malay. Parameswara later moved to mainland Malaya and founded Malacca. In 1416 he embraced islam and took the title of Megat Iskandar Shah.
Stamford Raffles on the other hand arrived in Singapore on the 28 January 1819 as he was asked by the East India Company to look for an alternative port further south as Penang is far in the north. He took the advantage of the power struggle between Sultan Abdul Rahman and Sultan Hussein. He installed Sultan Hussein as the rightful Sultan of Johore as Sultan Abdul Rahman was put up by the Bugis and the Dutch. That was how Singapore came under British influence.
So I find the meeting of this two important figures in the history of Singapore interesting and worth recording.
PP- Adjusted colour level and sharpness.

Hi Aloysius. I like the way you have concentrated the shot on the upper view of things. Nice inclusion of the palm tree as well. I think the sun was well located for very good light. Nice one Aloysius!

Hai Aloysius, I like the colorful statue against the building at the back. The statue is slightly under expose as sunlight was coming from the other side. Very useful note.

Hi Aloysius,
Great capture of the parade. As Stephen (Singuanti) notes, it was a great plan to portray the upper portions of the interesting objects. I like the drama of the archer poised in action with the background of the stately building and palm tree. Very well captured.

Hi Aloysius
I like the graphism of the archer & palm tree against the sky. I've been to Raffles a few times, when in Singapore, but I can't afford to stay there. Well done!

Hi Aloysius, You have done a very good job in taking this facing the light picture. I especially like the light showing on the other side of the face to the status. Nice contrast and excellent clarity. Well done.

Hi Aloysius,
The parades with a lot of floats depicting historical characters and national culture is always an interesting subject to shot. this reminds me of the republic day parade in New Delhi which is as impressive as anywhere in the world. I like you excellent POV here Aloysius. A pity the sun was on the opposite side and so darkens your shot a bit.

I really like this kind of view, for me, typical from Asia.
Very well composed with the small ray of light on the statue.
