Photographer’s Note
How is it that in this world the pure of heart are in prison and the evildoers are free to dish out even more
suffering and destruction?
I took the photo of these two Burmese wooden & pigment novices (19th century Mandalay) in Singapore's Museum of Asian Civilizations. At least these two cannot feel the deep sense of injustice and powerlessness as all of us do when we think of the fate of this noble soul who has spent so many years caged like a bird.
Protests as Suu Kyi marks 64th birthday in prison

The Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi spent her 64th birthday in detention yesterday as supporters worldwide condemned her trial and called for tougher sanctions against the military regime.
The Nobel laureate marked the day by sharing a meal of chicken biryani with staff at Insein prison in Rangoon, where she is on trial charged with violating her house arrest. She faces up to five years in jail if found guilty. "She will invite doctors who care for her, some guards and others to her party," said Dr Win Naing, a senior member of the National League for Democracy. In Brussels, Gordon Brown, who was attending a summit of the 27 European Union member states, told a news conference that the EU had agreed to step up sanctions against Burma's military rulers.
Calling Ms Suu Kyi "perhaps now the most renowned prisoner of conscience in the world", Mr Brown demanded an end to her "absurd and contemptible sham trial" and called for her immediate release. Confined for more than 13 of the past 20 years, Ms Suu Kyi's birthday has become an annual ritual inside and outside Burma for campaigners seeking an end to decades of military rule that has left the country an international pariah. The day took on even greater significance this year amid international outrage at the trial. She is widely expected to be found guilty of violating her house arrest by sheltering an uninvited American.
By the way, no flashlight (not allowed in the museum) and no tripod.

Hello Klaudio!
I like archaeology and museum photos, so this one is the bait for me. Excellent light and shadows in here. Your question "How is it that in this world the pure of heart are in prison and the evildoers are free to dish out even more suffering and destruction?" is an important one.

I recognised the photo straight away, this is one of my favourite museums and one of the best in Asia.
Like your commentary and relate well to it.

Who need flash and tripod with such firm hands? I would have shaken and blurred the picture!
It is a wonderful tribute to a great woman. She is the actual most venerated freedom fighter of the world. I have passed many times in front of her house but never had the chance of seeing her.

hi Klaudio,
first of all, my compliments on the quality, you must have arms of steel to get such a perfectly focused and sharp photo handheld at 1/2 sec :)
"annoyed" probably is the best way to describe how I feel about the fact that Aung San Suu Kyi is still under arrest and still facing absurd charges. she's been called Burmese Nelson Mandela, and I hope the similatiries will not end with being prisoners of conscience.
best,
Kristine
