In late December 2006, I took this picture from the window of a plane, as it approached Singapore Changi International for landing.
There are 1000s of people living in these filing cabinet style apartments. Very high-density housing.
The photo has some technical issues with colorization and there was a lot of haze and smog which made it difficult.

The homes you are referring to are commonly called HDB's ("Housing and Development Board"), which 80-90% of the population currently live in. They are purchased from the government, and if the owner decides- they can then go and lease it out.
They were first introduced as low-cost housing units as an answer to the housing shortages in Singapore and an ever growing population.
Present day, many of these HDB's have been modernised and some look more like condominiums then typical HDB's.
Not a bad shot Russel, but I would suggest a slight clockwise rotation so as they don't look like they're leaning too much.
