[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The image of Singapore that I have in mind is a clean-cut metropolis where rules are strictly enforced with a multitude of penalties for those who steps over the line. So much so that it has spawn a T-Shirt with the slogan: "Singapore: a fine city". Imagine my surprise when I saw a line of fake Gucci, Louis-Vuitton goods in a suitcases in the underpass right at the center of the Orchard road, the Champs Elise of Singapore.

together with the advertisement sign board in the picture, this picture can be another good advertisement poster!

If it wasn't for the lettering "JCDecaux" on the lightbox, I wouldn't have guess at first sight, it was a lightbox. The street peddler didn't think much of the law and the obvious penalty, which is publicly displayed.Really a sign of life, where life is above the law to most people, who has a tough time with life.

A very strange city.
So many standards for different classes of people.
I like Singapore in the 1960's, when I first went there. I am not interested in going any more.
But a great photo Thien, shows that not everyone lives in high-rise towers.
I too was fooled by the advertising hoarding.
Thanks,
Kevin

A really surreal photo Thien - the same young man, selling fake Gucci and suffering the penalty, all in the same frame...

Actually if you really want to change your view of Singapore, get over to Desker Road in Little India one of these evenings. Singapore is one of the few countries in the world where prostitution is legal and that's where its face is most accessible to tourists.
