Photographer’s Note
The details of the roof structure of the Esplanade Theatres on the bay of Singapore.
Most Singaporean call this structure “The Durian” due to the similarity with the fruit, but I also think that looks like an armadillo.
Anyway, I am glad that it doesn’t smell like durian! :-)
More details about the theatres here.

Hi Jorge,
Funny to see that one, since only a few days ago I posted a night version of the same roof. Oh yes, Durian smells terrible. I worked in Indonesia for a year and couldn't stand Durian. In the subway in Singapore you would find stickers "forbidden for Durians". Very funny. On the edges with the cloud, I got a slight feel of chromatic abberations, but not too badly - might be due to the compression and resizing as well.
Here you'll find a night shot of the same place!!
Thanks for sharing this one!
Greetings, Dennis

Hi Jorge. Beautiful graphics. The thorny architecture captured diagonally is great. Durian? I remember the smell! Perhaps its consumption in public places is not allowed in Thailand. Not sure. But this shot is really fit for wide public consumption. Regards.

I've never seen this building in reality but it certainly provides many wide and varied opportunities for abstract images. The 50/50 composition against the sky works very well.

Nice composition with the globe taking one corner. Nice sky to back it up.

Hi Jorge,
A great idea to capture just the detail on the roof close up. Well composed too only showing part of the dome. Love the repetitive pattern created.
Best wishes for 2008!

Hola Jorge!
Muy impresionante detalle de arquitectura moderna, como bien dices en el titulo, podria ser la espalda de un armadillo! Gran encuadre y composicion, perfecto manejo de la luz y una definicion de alta calidad! Felicidades!
Un fuerte abrazo,

Hello, Jorge -
No armadillos in SE Asia, unfortunately; they have to smell better than durians!
I like the picture, even though the elements of the structure get lost at the edge of the building. A function of the building design, it looks like.
Happy new year,
Dan

Hello Jorge -
This is an interesting perspective. I am beginning to really appreciate different or divergent views of everyday objects. This is a bit abstract but not so far gone that we don't recognize it as domed building. Selecting only part of the dome and placing against a story sky was a good and interesting choice. Well done.
Thank you for sharing.

Jorge,
funny name for the whole building "Durian". Easily to understand why with the texture that you're presenting in a minimlaistic approach. Glad that it doesn't smell like durian and also glad that the consistency isn't like durian.
It probably would be interesting to have some direct sunlight on it to have a better exploration of the texture.
Cheers, Peter

Hello Jorge,
Interesting shot. Nice idea to zoom in on the roof making the composition so simple yet so graphical. Happy New Year. Regards. Latiff.

Very original shot (well, you and Dennis that is :) but I really like the points sticking out. It does look like a durian.
Great capture,

Bonjour Jorge,
Daniel.

Hello Jorge,
A great catch and a clever title! This structure really does look like an armadillo's back. Very funny! You have a better eye for these unusual architectual details than I do. This is something that my wife would have noticed and I would have overlooked. Beautiful composition! The curve of the cloud mirrors the curve of the dome most of the way. This excellent abstract photo is very interesting and fun to look at. Great job!
