Photographer’s Note
For my 100th shot ... for no reason whatsoever I choose this photo - 'bazuka' style with the 75-300 - prying into none of my business outside a Hindu temple in Bugis area of Singapore.
For those who will berate me for taking photos of people praying...lots of people saw me and no one seemed to mind.
Could be sharper...not sure why my shutter speed ended up so low...
maybe 20 good ones is generous actually
Cheers
Mark

Nice framing and concept. The reason your shutter speed is so low is first, you shot it at 100 ISO.
At ISO 800 and the same aperture, you would have increased the shutter speed from 1/50th to 1/400. That is still quite a stretch at 300 mm x 1.6 {480mm 35mm equivalent).
Next time, try to move closer if you can....say the same framing from around 85mm to 100 mm.
You had the right idea composition wise though.

Hi Mark,
Congratulations on your 100 th post on TE !!!
"20 good ones" ... don't be so harsh with yourself. I think you improved your style through your 100 photos, you have more good ones.
It is a nice portrait of a woman praying. The bokeh is great but she indeed should be sharper.

Fanny

Heya Mark.... Happy 100th!
You don't look a day over 40 ;-)
I had a look at your updated bio- and must admit, had a chuckle over it. No one can ever say that you don't speak your mind!
This shot reminds me of a similar one I shot about a year ago (same area) posted here on TE. The great thing about zoom lenses are you don't have to really intrude in their privacy. Plus it's a tourist area- I'm sure they're used to it.
Now as far as a suggestion goes regarding your shutter speed. When using a zoom lens like the 75-300, I'll try and go for at least 1/300th if fully zoomed in- as the shake is more obvious when zoomed in. To achieve this, try setting the camera to TV (shutter priority) set your shutter speed to 300, the aperature will automatically compensate for the variations in light. If the f/stop is bottoming out in trying to let more light in... up your ISO. Camera's these days handle the noise better then they used to, and you can always run it through Neat Image (or similar) to minimise it.
Hope that helps mate.
All the best Mark!

Hi Mark
Congratz for reaching 100th - a important milestone! A nice praying shot here. Yea it's bit too soft but you shot at the right moment and captured a good expression of this devouted lady.
Next time bump up the ISO in cloudy weather :)
Cheers,
CheukHin
