Moscow by Night Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is a typical Moscow night seen near the red Square. High traffic, vibrant and busy around the clock.

The beautiful architecture, originally Russian, is quite special. Yet, I wondered about the fairness towards the old city with signs of modern corporations and brands mixing with strong expressions of historical architecture.

The population is high, maybe 10% of the that of the entire federation.

Hello Ian,

A very beautiful photograph of sunset.

Colors and exposure are well managed.
I would have seen a framing a little more panoramic to remove the high part of the sky.

I regret a little the standard lamps in the foreground.

I think I've already seen this view, but in another hour of the day... this one, for me, looks even better!
Although not in the next years, but one day I'll surely visit Russia... Moscow and St. Petersbourg are the cities I won't miss!

Ian,
Excellent blue hour shot! The blending of natural and artificial lighting is great creating a very nice scene. The reflection in the river adds nice balance to the shot. The curving streets and river lead the eye into the shot nicely. I disagree with Fabrice about cropping out part of the sky, I think it adds to the blue hour effect.

Nice night shot of Moscow, but I must tell you that there are many cities in Russia that are much more interesting than our capital!
Moscow has almost lost its original, "Russian" view and mood.

Hi Ian,as you know i like a lot this kind of pic,this is wonderfull too,especially because show a country that i like a lot but i never visit. Hi Ian. I like the dramatic use of the dark definitive shapes and the pale sky against which the smoking chimneys really stand out.Nice atmosphere, lovely lights, beautiful reflections on the water. Regards. Klaudio.

Hi Ian,
This is a good blue hour photo, showing a good composition with the river of water and cars, and in the bg a church.
I dont think that the blue frame is the best option here. Also, perhaps less sky will create more impact.
