Photographer’s Note
Kargopol is a town of 13.000 in Russia. It is built on both sides of the Onega River in the Kargopolsky district of the Arkhangelsk region not far from Lake Lacha.
It was founded in 1146 by people who moved there from Novgorod.
For several centuries Kargopol was an important trade center. When the cities of Arkhangelsk and Saint Petersburg were built, Kargopol became less important.
Alexandr Baranov, the first governor of Russian America (Alaska), was born in Kargopol.
Kargopol is famous for its examples of medieval Russian architecture, mainly wooden and stone churches. The earliest of these buildings is the stone Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ, completed in 1562.

This is a lovely sunset photo with the church as balance to the sun. Unfortunately you út so close to the church that we feel there is a bit missing on the right. But that frozen snow and the long shadows are fantastic to watch.

Hi Eugene,
I, more than anything, like the shot of the trees and their beautiful long shadows. There is the very nicely flattened snow that looks soft. The location of the church is interesting but seems to have lost its charm. Well Done Shot. Hadi

Hi Eugene,
This is a fantastic picture. The exposure is spot on, the weather was great, the snow blanket immaculate and the church gorgeous! Kargopol is a place I have long wished to visit, I hope this is going to be for this year!
Best wishes,
Jeremy

Hi Eugene,
This is a beautiful picture which seems to be in two parts...the bright, sunny side and the dark foreboding church on the right. The shadows and sun bursts on the snow are awesome and the sun is just subtle enough not to be shown too brightly. Good atmosphere and a well captured, well exposed shot. Best wishes, Vicky

Excellent exposure, no burnt out sun, a very good POV - the building is the star though...
