Saint-Petersburg on the Neva River is Russia's most European city. Northern, arty and vibrant. It is one of Europe's great cultural destinations.
The State Hermitage is a museum of art and culture in Saint Petersburg, Russia. As one of the largest and oldest museums in the world, it was founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great and has been open to the public since 1852.
Its collections, of which only a small part is on permanent display, comprise over three million items, including the largest collection of paintings in the world.
The collections occupy a large complex of six historic buildings along Palace Embankment, including the Winter Palace, a former residence of Russian emperors.
This picture shows a fragment of the south facade of the Winter Palace, with its distinctive colours.

I like the colorful details of this beautiful facade, sandwiched in between the white sky and white snow. It must really stand out during the long, winter months. Your entire series from St. Petersburg is excellent; all of the white contrasting with vivid colors, and one stark B/W.

A winter presentation of the Winter Palace -- great idea! The view which has been selected for this cropping is really amazing and full of great details and repeated motives. Perfectly executed image. TFS.

Kia ora Benny,
A great shot of an amazing piece of architecture. It certainly looks much smarter than when I visited the Hermitage during the Soviet era of the earlier 1980s - it definitely needed a coat of paint & a bit of TLC in those days. Cheers, Neil
