As the Maya guys tell us tomorrow our world will cease to exhist. So I thought I'd preview this unhappy event with this moody picture taken about a month ago just as the first snow had touched the ground and thin ice began setting in upon the river.
It is not a black and white picture, it's in full color. Just the kind of world we live in for the greater part of the year. Though I must say that right now we're having a rare week of all-day sunshine due to some crazy frosty anticyclone that's made our skies bright blue again.
A real treat before the end of the world:)

Hello Marina- Looking closely, I can see hints of colour in this fine shot, I have never had the pleasure of seeing such a monochromatic landscape and I really like it. It is starkly beautiful and you have produced a shot of lovely delicacy and peace. Very nice work. Warm regards Rosemary

no, lets not have the end of the world! lets see more photos of Russia instead!
as you say, this is NOT a black and white photo. Some muted colors are noticeable.
the best parts are the twisted and mangled branches set against a perfect color contrast.
a strong impact, a great visual.
see you around

Indeed, it is almost impossible to spot any colour on this one. All too familiar effect for me too, of course.
Your framing is beautiful and snow adds good contrasts to view. And that's why snow is so welcome in the beginning of winter.

I am still around !!
This is beautifully exposed and composed landscape with what seems very natural in colours, the bitter cold atmosphere adds so much to such a scene but it is a fascinating shot with the tree - a real cracker- catches the eye and without color to distract as we are glued to detail in those intricate branches and the trunk and this does have the impact. Tonal contrast and sharpness are fine, of a quality shot that absolutely evokes a sense of serenity as well. An impressive winter cladding scene, Merry Christmas to you and your family. Well done.

beautiful and very atmospheric shot! The scene looks monochromatic, which only intensify the gloomy mood awaiting of the end of the world.(happily I´m writing it 2 days after supposed end of the world,so it doeas mean nothing bad happened:)
You found really charming scene to capture.

Sorry I haven't visited in a while: I've been having a break from TE, but have now returned with batteries fully charged! I've chosen this among your recent postings, as I love the moody feel that you comment on in your note. The cold bluish tone, with just a hint of pink on the horizon just lift this away from monochrome, and the branch of the tree was beautifully chosen as a frame for your composition.
I'm glad I can comment on your photograph after the end of the world!
Happy New Year

Hi Marina !
Very nice composition vs. a silly Mayan calculation !
Yes, we must keep positive even if the pure white snow pick up some dirt, and the crappy human predictions we better take as a Hollywood cash in on propaganda, for only the Creator Himself will decide when the end should occure.
My best and warm greetings from a grey land, covered by heavy smog, still looking for a brighter future .

j'aime cette ambiance créée par la neige; les branches de l'arbre ajoutent un + à la scène; bon choix de "couleur" et graphisme

I like the melancholic mood of this image a lot, and the gray colors are also very fascinating. The photographer’s perspective is excellent. That was a very appropriate post on the occasion of this special day. My compliments!

I like the perception of the events, which didn't happen. Yes, there was a little curiosity round the globe about the much talked Calender. Believe me or not, the day I am convinced that the earth will be nor more tomorrow, I shall also hang my camera and record the events from a mountain top.
Thanks for sharing your concerns about the world and its safety.
