THE SOLID WATER, a photo from Perm, Ural

Photographer's Note

I shot this ice sculptures (see in WS too) on the central place of the Perm city. Our local government spent good money for this ice town. Anyway, this is good amusement for citizen and the guest of Perm.

And a small information.

Solid form of liquid water and water vapour. Below 32 °F (0 °C), liquid water forms a hard solid and water vapour forms frost on surfaces and snowflakes (see snow) in clouds. Unlike most liquids, water expands on freezing, so ice is less dense than liquid water and therefore floats. It consists of compact aggregates of many crystals (with hexagonal symmetry), although ice formed from the bulk liquid does not normally have crystal faces. Molecules in the crystal are held together by hydrogen bonds (see hydrogen bonding). With a very high dielectric constant, ice conducts electricity much better than most nonmetallic crystals. At very high pressures, at least five other crystal forms of ice occur.

Zdravo Serghei. A lot of talent there, I would think that the legs in particular would be hard to carve.Lovely POV against the blue sky and using the light to the maximum advantage. Pozdrav. Klaudio.

A fine capture of these delightfully carved ice sculptures. The sympathetic ambient light brings out the detail to good effect giving them a crystalline quality. Very good sharpness.

Hi Sergei,
There's a lot to like in this capture! The graphic tension between the robust /utilitarian steps and the elegant and well crafted ice sculptures for instance. But the things that provides the zing here is the beautiful light - which accentuates the translucency of the sculptures greatly and paints fine gradients in the sky. Xcellent work!

Du bel argent qui disparaitra au printemps, mais qui pour le moment amuse les enfants et les parents. Une contre plongée qui donne beaucoup d'ampleur à la sculpture de glace.

Fine icey-art and marvelous picture taken.
One comment though: I tend to crop the lower part and leave only the statue on image, from base upwards - on an horizontal aspect. But this is only my view.

Судя по этому и дополнительным снимкам в Workshopе, у вас научились ваять изо льда настоящие произведения искусства, и делают это с большим размахом. Я в новом году еще не был на нашей центральной площади, может быть и у нас есть что-то подобное. Знаю, что скульпторы по льду приезжают к нам с Урала и из Китая. Исключительно удачный снимок!

You hardly need critique from me to for you to know this is a cracking picture. And just think how far your local government's roubles have spread, all round the world thanks to TE. So not such bad value after all !

And that sky.. ooohh !!!

I think landscape may have worked well here too, more ice, and less steps. But no doubt you had your reasons. But whichever way up, thnaks for sharing a fine sculpture, and a fine photograph.
