...if you don't want to buy an expensive train ticket... or if you are simply being terribly late for your train, and the next train is only in an hour :-)
in this case, you can follow this guy, of course.
I shot this from a bridge with my Nokia cell phone on my way to work.
For many of you who have seen my previous uploads, this place will look familiar.
On the left: Belorussky Railway Terminal, you can see a photo of it here.
Also on the left: the red train is an express shuttle train running between this railway terminal and Sheremetyevo-2 International Airport
On the right: a Stalin's Empire style building - you can see it here.
PS. I only corrected some lens distortion and sharpened the image.

I like this station covered with snow. It looks like a toy railways station.
wolf38 (29116) 2010-03-01 0:48
Hi Elena. A train station, trains, anyone crossing the tracks. You have captured everything with your DSLR. I hope that no official has asked: "What are we doing here?" Today's photo is well composed and beautifully colored. The text is informative. Regards, Wolfgang.

Elena, nice capture, the winter makes the yard look clean and very photogenic. Wonderful lines and nice colors. Greg
macondo (18461) 2010-03-01 3:22
What a strong picture you have here; the red paintwork of the trains really stands out against the winter grey-white-greenish tones. I like to see those figures waiting on the platform on the far right. Terrific graphical effect of the curving tracks. I can't believe this is a phone camera! Very sharp, good quality. Who needs a DSLR?
sandpiper (6560) 2010-03-01 3:32
An amazing result from your Nokia. Perfect sharpness and amzing details. Beautiful contrast between teh snow and the colours of the trains.
Urs (14078) 2010-03-01 5:04
Interesting, the Nokia cell can produce such a nice picture! I'm surprised. For me a cell is just a phone, I do not all the other features. Such railway stations I miss in South East Asia, the railway is not very important. Good contrast between the trains and the snow. Well done. Thanks for your critique of my paddy planting shot.
ktanska (22650) 2010-03-01 5:15
It's an excellent high viewpoint showing two generations of trains between classic city buildings. And the action captured at that fence is perfectly timed. Those fluorescent red stripes should well do the job of making the moving train more noticeable. Snow makes the scene brighter, I like it.
dta (56584) 2010-03-01 5:22
Hello Elena ,
An excellent picture ! I like a lot the contrast of the red elements with the snowy scenery . The framing , POV , and composition are perfect , and the sharpness really good .
mafegan (8622) 2010-03-01 6:04
Your cell phone (we call them mobile phones) takes pretty amazing photos. Red and green seem to be popular colours but none look like the Trans-Siberian train. Great to see so many of your daily life photos especially your journey to and from work. Tfs, Marlene
asajernigan (19669) 2010-03-01 6:15
This is a great shot for a cellphone camera! To me this looks like a good way to get yourself killed!
Your composition is nice using the rails and trains to lead the eye through the shot. The lighting and colors are fine and the sharpness is very good.
ellelloo (6570) 2010-03-01 8:06
A great POV and composition. The trains are curving away in a fine way creating a graphical impression, which is emphasized by the white snow. Very good exposure, perfect colours and clarity and amazing sharpness. Indeed a high quality photo, shot with cellular phone camera! TFS!
Warm greetings from Espoo, where we have snow, sleet and rain now.
Longroute (19392) 2010-03-01 8:52
Very dangerous! Beside being illegal...
I guess you were passing across one of those suspended bridges, weren't you? So that gave you the opportunity to get this very good sight from a privoledged pov. I like this railways pictures, there is always a fine perpsective and depth given by the rails and/or the long trains like here. But in this photo there is an original feature: the fine contrast between the snow and the colourful trains, and for that reason it looks more special!
saxo042 (33900) 2010-03-01 10:12
A very good POV and an excellently composed picture with the curved lines of the trains and the very attractive colours also. What are the destinations for the other red and greens trains?
A very good daily life capture!

J'aime cette photo avec la neige omniprésente qui fait ressortir les machines et leurs couleurs. Belle composition !
Le gars qui essaie de se faufiler pour gagner du temps ou de l'argent est bien visible sur fond blanc.
akm (1216) 2010-03-01 10:31
I am again amazed at what you can do with a cell phone. This is a really wonderful shot with so many elements that all work together -- the curving lines, the color, the contrast of neo-classical and Soviet era buildings and the amusing story behind the guy taking the short cut. Great eye and great job!
mortijo (12828) 2010-03-01 11:54
Photo taken with a cell phine...I think I'll sell my Sony 900. But of course, it is not only the equipment, there is also the person holding the camera. My sincerest congratulations, Elena, an excellent job.
TOMLEVMB (1302) 2010-03-01 12:29
Beautiful photographs in an environment that interest you. Could also be called "Meeting of Generations". We see it all - railway architecture, three types of electric rail units and others. Such a picture in my last visit to Moscow in May could not do. I was always a worry, because I thought that the railway is shooting at you in Russia remain prohibited.
cherryripe (21015) 2010-03-01 13:14
Your cell phone has an excellent quality. The details are so sharp that I feel like I'm there too. Loads of depth thanks to your pov and the colours of the trains and buildings stand out nicely against the snow and grey sky.

magnifique photo. bravo

Living in a busy city is not easy, thought is dangerous the man acrossing the busy track like this, informative note, this is really a lesson of taking train, good frame to different type of trains, impressive view from the station at winter, good shoot.
John_F_Kennedy (41526) 2010-03-02 0:34
It's splendid! The railway stattion is excellent composed.
have a nice day,
holmertz (31248) 2010-03-02 8:18
So you're already back on line. Large train stations are always exciting places, especially when seen from this angle and in this very good light. I took some pictures from a similar angle at an Indian station last year, and there were a hundred persons waiting to board the incoming train from the wrong side.
The soft light has made those nuances of red and green look great.
AKITA (15125) 2010-03-02 11:42
a beautiful panoramic view shot of handsome three trains and surrounding winter scene,
(he seems so dangerous, never follow him actually,,,)
I like left red express, showing me its most lovely face and body,
and about other two trains, red lines on green bodies are vivid,
curved rails and trains make nice depth of space between left station house and right old building,
thank you for your wonderful winter shot,
xavshot (69835) 2010-03-02 11:59
un très bon POV et un superbe rendu des couleurs. La neige permet de mettre en valeur ces 3 locomotives. Bravo.

So I guess one cannot live without TE for more than a week... Welcome to the club of serial TE leavers/returners, I myself did this several times...:)))
Excellent shot for a cell phone, I see this one has a great camera! Nice representation of old Russian elektrichkas and a new kind of train, I didn't know that nowadays you can go to the airport in Moscow directly by train, like in Europe... This must be new, as several years ago it wasn't like this, I once almost missed the plane in Sh-2 waiting for an hour for a marshrutka :)))
PS Pro Shvondera mne ponravilos ;)))

Good morning Elena,
Sometimes seems to us that our late can completely transform our lives. So think hurrying drivers, pedestrians and people in other situations altogether. Life, however, is patient, does not escape so quickly before us. Urgency is born in our minds and is the result of permanent stress. This man is a risk. Once you see traces of snow that is not the only unruly passenger. Nicely captured scene on the background atmosphere station.
boa (4605) 2010-03-03 13:20
remarkable crisp and clear shot from your mobilephone again ! And it`s useful to see the trainstation, when i go there someday (i had plans for April but i don`t know yet) Good observation of this guy and a perfect Pov.
sacavem (18604) 2010-03-04 1:55
I read the note, impressive photo of Nokia cell phone.
Is perfect. Beautiful scene composed perfectly. In my country one does not see images of these.
Very well done, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your critique of my Golden Twilight.
Ricx (13489) 2010-03-04 2:59
Hi Elena, just superb, especially from your cell phone.. The snow creates a great back drop for the trains.. Good note with a great sense of humour.. Have a great day in Russia. From a warmer UK Ricx

Very good composition, taking advantage of the point of view. The red parts on the trains have a strong and nice impact on the view.
emjleclercq (15778) 2010-03-04 13:12
Well, no paying trains tickets has always been a sport everywhere, but this time you caught the guy "red handed"!
All the best,

Bom dia Elena
You got a beautiful composition here. Things that I'd like to do... trips in trains.About following this boy... is an option.
jplebrun (21208) 2010-03-05 4:52
très bonne photo de cette personne qui risque de se casser les os pour ne pas manquer son train, au Canada les trains commencent à revenir tranquillement à la mode pour le transport en commun. Amitiés

Interesting all those white when we are here under a hot summer ... Great photo composition from an excellent point of view.

I like trains so I like this photo. I didn't see you're guy at first. Nice capture. I'm curious what type of nokia you have. This is a really good picture for a mobile phone. Nice post.
pablominto (53744) 2010-03-07 7:15
The good thing about many large railway stations is you can find an elevated point of view like this, and then make use of the great lines in the composition!
I did read recently that we now can enjoy the trip from Moscow to Vladivostok by camera but I haven't yet tried it out, maybe during Easter when I have a week free hehehe...
The scene is well framed with fine details, and I think you captured a fellow doing something illegal..!
Vasa (16612) 2010-03-07 14:27
First, it is worth thematic picture for many collections. Second, it is enough. After all I appreciate your elaborated position and the disposition of the trains makes a complete composition. Nice picture, dear friend. So glad to see you again.
Angshu (52890) 2010-03-07 20:02
Like snakes coming out of their holes...fine perspective created from your high POV of the three trains with the powdery white snow covering everything but the tracks. I admire the quality of the picture taken with your Nokia...crisp and clear. Good work! Regards
jmdias (48333) 2010-03-08 2:04
beautiful image. I liked the graphism of the lines and the colors of these trains in the midle of the snow. nice image
npecanhuk (56358) 2010-03-08 8:13
I love traveling and trains are a special way to do that, specially in Europe! Are trains popular in Russia? Well, maybe one day I'll be able to go there and check that out!!! Maybe a visit, how about that!
The picture is very attractive, with excellent exposure, sharpness, high pov, dof, colors, giant square format, black&white frame and composition!
I really like the title too... just now saw that girl down there!
TFS - congratulations!
My warmest regards,
ikeharel (43953) 2010-03-10 3:34
Trains on snow are always a facinating photo ( we don't have snow here, at least not where trains run).
UlfE (14128) 2010-03-15 11:17
A perfect train shot. I believe you were a bit lucky that there were three trains in the station and also that something happened. I believe that people cross the tracks to save time is something that happens everyday in almost every train station all over the world, but is seldom anyone capture the scene as well as you have done here. TFS and have a fine week!
Didi (51265) 2010-03-19 18:55
Je suppose que le traducteur n'a pas dit une bétise :)
J'aime bien cette image, le point de vue dominant met en valeur cette gare, ainsi que le resquilleur qui tente de voyager gratuitement.
J'espère que tu continueras à publier sur TE.

I am not used to see the rails covered by snow. The lockomotives frontage have a grid to push the snow away to the sides. The green trains I recognise them as regional ones, the slowest. The red is a fastest one. There are not so many rails here or perhaps they are not visible. In Kassel I have seen so many lockomotives displayed as it was the 150th birthday of the factory. I remember to see a lockomotive with a fan at the front. A lockomotive used at mine works in Syberia. I have experienced step by step how a lockomotive is built and all the craftness. But as everyting I had my mission in my profession. Looking to these powerful machines I paid a deep attention to the upper part of them because I thought the plate was glimmering but in fact it is the rests of snow over them. The green locks looks like combative machines in the rough weathers they everyday do.There is a man at the end of the platform passing by a forbidden area. The man must be late to arrive somewhere! There are so many people caught by trains. I like to green building at the left side. Its colour is so soft and fits well. Yet the length of trains curving gave you the best moment to take the shot of these majestic ones. Very perfect photo at which you were present. Best wishes, your friend. Tomi
Estelle (2764) 2010-05-11 14:51
The colour of the trains really stand out with this white snow. It gives a beautiful picture with the design and depth of field given by the trains on their length.
kordinator (14795) 2010-05-13 3:56
this your work inspires me.
I love this photo.
Multicolor on white snow a great contrast of colors.
Everything is so harmonious and beautiful.
Place from which you made the photo was perfect.
Light is perfect.
All praise for the work.
