Photographer’s Note

The title has nothing to do with this shot, except for the name of the boat. Valeriy Brusov was a 19th C Russian poet, a pretty good name for a boat.

On coming back from St Petersburg I was amazed to see that golden dome had now been completed on the reconstructed St. Sophia cathederal, less than a week earlier had been nothing more than the structural framework, as shown in the workshop. It amazing how quickly you can build a cathederal if you really want to, this shot was taken only about 5 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Nice framed shot and very informative note Richard! The oposite lines of the boat and the opposite building and its reflection on the water makes the composition very balanced and dynamic...

I may try a ws to fix the sky later. Nothing serious, just some minor noise & color problems. The rest of the image is great. Good note, wonderful reflections & excellent work!

Wonderful depth and DOF, Richard! I always love to see water reflections in a shot and here you managed them pretty well, bringing through them a fine mirroring effect of the lovely architecture and increasing the impact of colours. The hull of the boat emerging from right is just striking. Very well done!

Nice composition for this shot.
I like the reflection on the water, the guys training on the water...
The only things for me is the noise in the picture.
Maybe you should run it trough NeatImage.

Nice juxtaposition of the boat an dthe building. The small boat in between provides the viewer an idea of how wide-angled this shot is. Nice distinct patterns...almost graphic.
