Photographer’s Note
During this trip to Russia (mainly MOscow) we had a trip to St. Petersburg. Overnight train there (arrive at 0700) and another back (leave at 2200), and a packed day in between. Got in a load of sightseeing before this place opened (all morning here), lunch Peter and Paul fortress, Kirovsky islands, Niva delta, dinner, train back. Exhausting but great. We even had a car attendant who served us tea from a samovar, do they still do that on the TSR Rinie?
I was surprised to see only one other shot of this view on TE, so I thought I'd post mine too, I quite like as an extra touch the mother and children talking in the foreground. I imagine her explaining the significance of this place, and what they are about to see before taking them around. Not a treat that many of us British parents take our children on.
I left a little perspective distortion in to leave the impression of being at a level with the people.

Superb colors and perspective are the strong points in this shot Richard! The capture of the daily life scene and the very beautiful building together is very successful indeed! I love your Russian series!

Hi Richard
Excellent sharpness & clarity. A good daily life shot of St Petersburg. It still looks cold, even in Spring. Good use of diagonals & linear perspective in the composition. Well done!

Sharp and the color is well saturated. I like the perspective, the blue sky, and the bunch of people in the foreground, making it even more interesting and lively photo.

Bella scena di vita, grandissimo stile architettonico, luce fantastica e contrasto suggestivo, parti dorate che spiccano incredibilmente!

Impressive building, good capture giving a fine perspective, and I like the inclusion of the people there, adding fine details and giving 'life' to the compo.
.. and what compact travel agenda Richard :-)

Now a colored street picture of Russia. And colorful it is indeed. I like the way the people are unobtrusive to the buildings. This makes their colors very distinct.

Beautiful view, Richard. Good diagonal perspective towards the magnificently architectured building. Judging from the peoples' coats, quite a cool day but already some nice spring light is present that creates a lovely color setting. Well done.

This is the street side of the Winter Palace isn't it? (the home of the Hermitage). I believe I have a similar shot that I haven't posted. If you see several shots of the same site or subject by different photographers, do put them into the theme group I have created for that purpose.

Hi Richard,
Having reviewed your russian gallery, I stopped by this one, I like very much its great perspective and the good colors, did you use a pola ? I like these conditions when the air is pure, dry and cold. The light falls well to show nice architectural details and the people walking around in many directions add a good human dynamic. The scan output is excellent as well.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Hey Richard!!!
Because of your message to Jean Yves, I found this picture, I have never seen it, maybe you posted it while I was inactive for a couple of weeks. You even asked me something.
Yes, they stil have samowars in each coach, although they do not serve it to you, it's self service, and you need not pay for the tea. Hot water available day and night, heated on coal, and when that's finished, they use wood. I liked it very much, I have a picture of it, but actually the wrong one, a newere version of the old cast iron, white painted samowar.
Nice picture, Richard, makes me want to go there as soon as possible. St. Petersburg has been on my list for a long time.
