Photographer’s Note

In winter, in St Pétersburg, snow and negative temperatures (here - 5°C) do not prevent the inhabitants from walking in the parks of the city with children and babies… like here in the Park Mikhaïlovski where the sight is superb on surprising the church of the Resurrection of Christ (1883/1907). A Russian style with its golden and multicoloured bulbs.

Bonsoir Jean,

Il est mimi le petit avec sa tenue de cosmonaute !!! Effectivement elle ressemble beaucoup à la cathédrale que j'ai pu apprécier sur les belles photos de notre ami Jacques. C'est presque appétissant toutes ces couleurs saupoudrées de sucre glace. J'aime beaucoup l'équilibre de l'image. Belle et intéressante photo, merci Jean.

Hello Jean,
you really know the art of composition!
The white foreground, the row of trees, all contribute to create a wonderfully graphic surrounding for this fantastic church. And the two women with the child really makes the scene more alive and real. A very good capture and document from cold Russia, neat and elegant. Well done,

Bonsoir jean,

La présence des personnes a un effet d'échelle de grandeur. Les arbres cadrent bien l'église. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails et les couleurs de l'architecture de l'église. La réflexion de la lumière sur la neige rehausse les couleurs. Bonne soirée.

Bien sûr, on l'a vue souvent sur TE cette église mais rarement dans son environnement hivernal qui la rend encore plus belle.Excellente composition et bon choix de format pour cette photo de très belle qualité.

Hello Jean,

Dommage pour le temps gris. Passer une photographie comme celle-ci en noir et blanc aurait été dommage car les couleurs cette église auraient été perdue. Mais je me demande ce que donnerais la même image avec les couleurs du soir.

This is a fine shot of this great Cathedral. Your composition is nice showing the Cathedral from an angle that gives the photo depth. The muted lighting works well here helping to create a wintry mood. The overhanging limbs frame the scene nicely.

Cette magnifique église et surtout ses bulbes dorés si caractéristqiues des églises orthodoxes ressort très bien dans cet univers blanc à l'exposition idéale. Belle utilisation du format carré et des arbres pour créer un cadrage "naturel". Très beau, très intéressant aussi.

On dirait que ces églises russes sont prévues pour être vues sous la neige. Le premier plan blanc met en valeur les belles couleurs de cette cathédrale. Les arbres dépouillés de leurs feuilles accompagnent l'architecture de leur graphisme léger.

well-composed photo showing winter spirit and beautiful russian architecture.Nice colors and perspective,however I would have get rid of willows in the top corners of the photo or find another shooting angle.They appears to me a bit distructive (IMHO).

I fully agree with Donato: composition in your photos is perfect! Either you feel it or you don't!
Besides the wonderful composition the view itself is very smartly taken, it includes all the necessary elements and objects (even the couple with a child playing in the snow), and also the mood of this place and grey winter day.
I very much like the colours and the light management.
I am not an admirer of Russia but sometimes very good exceptions break my rule of avoiding critiquing photos of Russia :)

je m'aperçois que j'ai oublié de mettre un mot sur cette magnifique photo!Chaque fois que je le vois,je suis impresionée par la beauté de ce monument!Et là,j'aime beaucoup la façon dont il emerge des arbres,dans cete rue complètement enneigée!Le fin graphisme des branches,loin de le camoufler,lui donne un aspect un peu mystérieux!Superbe!

Surelly one of the most beautiful churchs in the whole world this one, specially due to its top and unusual architecture.
I like how you've framed it with the park trees on foreground and the persons walking by in the park under this freezing temperatures.
