Photographer’s Note

Main square and theatre of Novokuznetsk. The city was an outpost of the Cossacks during the XVIth century and was first called Kuznetsk ("blacksmith" in russian). The name was changed under Staline to Novokuznetsk (New Kuznetsk).

Theatre de Novokouznetsk sur la place principale. La ville fut fondee au XVIe par les Cosaques, et s'appelait d'abord Kuznetsk (forgeron en russe). Elle fut ensuite repabtisee Novokouznetsk (Nouvelle Kouznetsk) sous Staline, et s'appela egalement Stalinsk pendant quelques annees.
