Photographer’s Note
Now it's the first summer I haven't been at home at all. And even though I love saying that I do not miss people that are not with me and places that I am not at... whenever I recall that sunset I dream of being there again.
This is the Volga river. Some would refer to that as the longest in Europe and one of the longest in the world (3530 km). For me Volga used to be something essential as my home town Ulyanovsk is situated on the both banks of it. The two parts of the town are connected by the bridge and I remember myself crossing it by bus every day.
Last summer I was home for summer vacation and once going through the bridge I got blind by the sun setting down. I was struck how gorgeous the sunsets on the Volga are. By that time I had got used to spectacular sunsets at the sea in Norway… I though that nothing would compare with the beauty of those… But now I can say that it is not an abstract notion of beauty, but your inner feeling about the place that make a certain place beautiful for you. This shot was made just after a sunset. One more hot day is gone and a chilly night steps in.
