Soviet Russia may be dead but it is not forgotten. Wherever I went in Russia I saw symbols to constantly remind one of the past. thisone I though was quite fitting, the hammer abd sickle sitting (once proudly) in a state of decay. Barbed wire menacingly at the back, but even this too is now covered with cobwebs to show its past threatening state. That having been said, the thorns of Soviet Russia still exist in the modern day beaurocracy and corruption.

I love the symbolism in this image. It says a lot about the state of the state. Technically it's fine. The main subject placed centrally works here because of the assymetrical but balanced rocks on the two sides.

I have a strange feeling while watching your photo and reading your note. You know that a anthropologist (russian one) said that if fascism reappear in Europe, will be in Russia... Well, nobody knows, I´ve been only in Moscow and I think I know what you mind. There people seem to me a kind of sad even when they were laughing. A picture full of meaning.

Great composition here. The wire and the symbol of communism, they go so well together.

there are spiderwebs now on the fence ;-)
The composition looks quite unreal and abstract. The colors are very "cold". Looks great!

what an impressive photo. The combination of the emblem and the barbwire is very strong.
Although it`s a simple photo it has a big message.
Thanks for sharing!

I came across your photo 5 years after it was posted. To me reeding the comments is much more interesting than the photo-cliche in the frame. Not the symbols of the past but the thinking of the present are the danger for the World. Somebody mention that the Russians are not very happy people. To be happy for what? For that they embraced the World and the World still look at them suspiciously and surround them with bases and hostile regimes? Common! Very cheap! Everybody sees what he is looking for - that is especially true about the photographers.
So who is buried in past?:-)
