Sunset in Perm 2.
During the traintrip from Moscow to Irkutsk, we used to stop every couple of hours.
This was Perm 2, the last stop before we crossed the Ural mountains, so, regretfully we crossed those at nighttime. Would have liked to see them. It all means that I have to do this trip again ;-)
I'm fond of all those lines, and the reflection on the trains.
Perm was the hometown of the Russian composer Sergej Diaghilev, he lived there from his tenth to his eighteenth year.
There was noise in the sky, because the camera was on 1000 ISO, so I ran a moderate noiseware, lightened up the very dark parts a bit, saturation +3, a frame and USM.

Wonderful Rinie, taking advantage of what is around you during your train trip. The sky is gorgeous, of course, but it is the delicate lines running in every direction that really makes this image, at least to my eye. Colors and details are finely rendered and I like the simple frame you added, which mimics lines within the image. Fine capture and excellent post production work. Your delicate touch with the noiseware allows us to see the fine lines in the overhead wires.

Great twilight shot, the cables make such a stark contrast with the sky.
Isabelle (9046) 2004-11-19 20:10

i am speechless. 100000 :-) to you!

"Another" sunset, an very nice industrial one, great colours and all these lines, nice seen. Also the left- and rightside filled up with the train and building, I like it a lot, Rinie

Hi Rinie, nice effect you got there, the wire maze is interesting and adds lines & perspectives to the photo, and the tonal ranges are just superb. na Vostok !

Nice pattern agains a beautiful sky. This should be impossible but you made it!

Now, I think I would have looked at the sky at thought, what a wondeful sunset, shame about all the overhead lines, and put my camera away. You obviously saw further than that and took this very good shot. The overhead lines add to the interst of the photo, the parrel lines of teh framing trains and the pylons just redirect your eye to the wonderful sunset. Well done and thanks for teaching me soemthing.

This came out very good indeed, Rinie. You were given a fabulous sky and light setting, and you captured it in a good industrial-style compo. I like how the maze of power poles and lines, as odd as it may seem, creates some inherent order. Also, the train cars at either side make a strong way of drawing the view into the photo, kind of like a funnel. Very nice.
premels (2400) 2004-11-20 13:58
I don't know what I could add to the critiques this picture received already. The maze of wires, lines and poles is a wonder.
manny (21833) 2004-11-20 14:22
A nice way to photograph sunset. The many patterns of the cable makes the sunset scene dynamic and interactive.

A beautiful industrial sunset, Rinie, and an excellent PP. There is something very Russian in this shot. I read a nice bok about the trains that cross Russia from west to east, by Chingis Yeitmatov (I am not sure about the spelling and I don't know the english name) - you really shoyuld read it.

I really like the fiery feel of the sky. Not only the colors but the textures. It really comes to life. All the electric lines also engage the sky to come to life as it gets filled with so much electricity. Perhaps a little less of the little bit of sky at the top and a little more of the train windows and the reflections might have been nice. I like those reflections but there is so little of it. And it may have worked really nicely for perspective along with the electric towers. Nicely done, though. Great sunset view.

I like the idea Rinie
high contrast of manmade elements with the beautiful skies
I like it, by the way how did you remove the noise?
sn00zie (2384) 2004-11-21 10:15
some magnificent colors in this picture Rinie.. even though there are so many wires in the picture; it adds to the charm of it.. it forms quite an interesting pattern: like a huge net of wires.
Jeppe (18654) 2004-11-21 16:39
A fine golden sky - when ever I spot this kind for clouds and light - its always a problem to find a nice background - You did nicely here Rinie - I like all those lines you got - and mix of mast and trains - thanks for sharing.
RGatward (20086) 2004-11-21 18:35
What about on the way back? Anyway, this is really great. All that catenary against an ordinary sky would have been good, but against this one it's great. I'll have ot make way for another favourite.

Wow! What a gorgeous sky, covered with such a thick wire net, Rinie! :-) Excellent depth and fine light at down, that bring lovely atmosphere to your shot. Excellent job!

Very well done Rinnie; Actually i did not expect one could make a very nice picture from this topic but you clearly demonstrted the contrary. A giant web against the setting sun.. Bravo, michel.

Hola Rinie: I check your photo´s page and I did not found anyone new... So I have decided to take a ride in your history. Russia has been always appealing to me although my experience in Moscow was not as pleasant as I would have liked to be.
This photo has such a very traveled mood, that I´ve got anxious to get my backpack and runaway as fas as possible. The compo is perfect, we realize we are seeing the train cables, and the clouds are an invitation to live that I like a lot. Muchas gracias Rinie.

Ola Renie fantastico por do sol, os cabos eletricos fazem um belo contraste com o ceu.

Outstading image. What an unusual and creative way to shoot a sunset without using any cliche.
Beautiful composition and clever use of the surroudings.
Superb pice of work!

A very wonderful shot where you capture very well that "end of the world" feeling. INteresting how warm colours wan project such a cold feeling.
