Chronologia Svecica tells us:
“Combusta est ciuitas Sigtonien-sis a paganis et Johannes secundus Archiepiscopus Upsalensis in Almaernstech ab eisdem occisus est, et tunc ciuitas Stockholmensis edificata est”.
Which are
"City of Sigtuna burn down by the pagans, and Archbishop of Upsala, John II, also killed by them; in this year also city of Stockholm was founded".
So in year 1187 Swedish capital of the time, Sigtuna, was stormed and destroyed by Karelians, which were directed and supplied, almost certainly, from Novgorod the Great.
Gates of the Western wall of St-Sophia Cathedral, according to one of the versions, are actually gates from Sigtuna, brought to Novgorod by the Karelians.
Karelia at the time was a Novgorod-dependent land.

Anyway, here we can see German-made metalwork, of the second half of the XII century, with a lot of plates on which different scenes from the Bible placed; on this particylar plate depicted the medieval unverse - with a holy figure in the middle, Evangelists all around and different allegorical figures.
