Photographer’s Note

Ancient fortress Koporye was founded in year 1240 on debatable land of Ingria by Teutonic Order Knights. In this year fortress was stormed and destroyed by Prince of Novgorod, or, as he was called in Teutonic chronicles, King of Novgorod, Alexander Nevsky.
Later, in 1300-s, when Novgorod decided to make a circle of stone strongholds around main city, fortress in Koporye was remade.
Serbian architects and craftsmen worked here, thus Koporye is the uttermost Northern work of Serbs and as well one of the very few medieval Serbian works outside of Serbia that outlived the countless years passed since XIV century.
Of course, main work was made by Novgorodians, but Serbian influence is quite clear in design of the castle.
