Black-Water Village, a photo from Kabard-Balkaria, North Caucasus

Photographer's Note

This is Karasu (Black-Water) Village, which is situated at the place, where the Karasu River (it is seen in the right part of the background) empties into the Cherek Bezengiyskiy (or Cherek Khulamskiy, as another variant of its name). The Cherek flows from the left, where the Cherek-Bezengiyskiy canyon is seen, to the right margin of the picture. The picture was a stitched from two ones.

There are a lot of rivers with the name Karasu (meaning "black water" or "black river") in the regions, where Turkic languages are spoken. Those Karasu rivers I have seen before were pretty muddy. But this one in Kabardino-Balkaria has absolutely clear, not black, water. An explanation of the name I got from a local man. He told me, that the water in the river is so clear, that the black bottom of the river is visible very well.

It looks like the Pyrénes mountains in France ! The same greenery , and the sames dark roofs . Is it slate ?
Very luminous despite the overcast weather .

Beautiful landscape!
Very attractive picture!
I just wish it were larger so I could see better all those nice natural & village details!
Color, chosen pov, horizontal format and simple composition are all excellent! The sky on the right top corner's a bit overexposed, but I'm not too serious about thoses flaws, because I think that's the way we really see things for real!

A great composition with the image of these beautiful landscapes, the place is superb in this beautiful valley in the foreground and mountains in the background, always surprises me in your image, everything is so green, even in midsummer, is a vision ideal.
The day was cloudy but you have good light and I love color. Very interesting note, makes us identify more with what we're seeing. Thanks.

it is interesting thet I often meet the names kara-something and it is black. Maybe all these name come from Turkish? Pleasant village beautifully situated in the mountains. Nice valleys and the mountains coverd with the forests.

The village is nicely located overlooking the river!
I notice this is a cloudy day but the fine greenery still stands out with a fresh feeling...
