Today is International Mountain Day, a photo from Kabard-Balkaria, North Caucasus

Photographer's Note

The United Nations General Assembly has designated 11 December, from 2003 onwards, as “International Mountain Day”. This day is an opportunity to create awareness about the importance of mountains to life, to highlight the opportunities and constraints in mountain development and to build partnerships that will bring positive change to the world’s mountains and highlands.

I am posting this picture as my contribution to observance of International Mountain Day. This mountainous region, called as Dzhilisu warm mineral waters, is highly picturesque, but very hard-to-reach and undeveloped. There are no paved roads to get there and few hotels. One of them, with a view of the Mount Elbrus, you can see in the picture, but unfortunately it is for very important persons only.

What a fantastic landscape view! The strong contrast between the green mountain and the white peak and the blue sky. Those red roofs on the top are indeed the icing of the cake! Marvellous!

Every day , this is a "something" day ! :) And I didn't know that this day existed . I love mountains , and you've showed us a splendid serie of the Caucasus . This one is fantastic , too . With the double snowy summit above the green pastures , and the eye catching hotel , so little in this immensity .

Hello Sergiy,
Thinking back to your previously posted pictures I know that 'International Mountain Day' will be a special day
for you. And of course you celebrate this with a special beautiful picture of a mountainous area.
This region with its green-covered mountain slopes and the reddish brown rocks looks ideal for hiking.
But the icing on the cake here consists of two things: the white building with its red roofs takes a unique position on this photo as well as in this area. Secondly the snowcapped Elbrus appears majestically and impressive behind the green ridge.
The picture is well composed, has beautiful natural colours and is clear and sharp.
I hope that one day you may enjoy the view of the Elbrus from a room in that hotel.
The management has to realise that everybody is important :)

Is it? Well, you chose a suitable photo then! You could have chosen a vertical shot to get the white mountains and the house in each upper corner. I think that would have been my choice, but you've still done a very good job. I have a great respect for the landscape of Caucasus.

I had no idea that there is something like International Mountain Day! But I find it great. Fantastic photo. Mou nt Elbrus totally covered with snow and in the fg such a green slopes. Funny little hotel there. The view from there must be splendid. But are these important persons going there on foot??? usually important persons do not like going.

Superb mountain'shot. The secund plan with the white color of the snow give depht to the composition. This image is very well coloured: the white of the snow, the tender green of the vegetation, the blue of the sky and the red roof wich arise at the top.

Hi Sergiy,
A good photographic contribution for the International Mountain Day, with this magnificent composition in which you offer us the great beauty of this mountainous landscape.
There is an extraordinary contrast between the green tones of the mountain in foreground, the whiteness of the snow of the Mount Elbrus, and the beautiful blue sky.
The hotel in the edge is outlined on the sky, and must be a great point of observation of this area, but sadly only for VIPs.

what a picturesque and spectacular sight is this? I like the great contrast of the colours and especially the snowy peak of the Mt, as the red roofs of the houses in the middle of the frame,that outlined perfect against the blue sky.The brilliant light of the day with the vivid colours to make it more effective. Thank you for this very worthy posts. I didn't realise 11th December was International Mountain Day. I shall keep it in mind next time.
This is a grat composition, with the green mountain that looks very rugged indeed.
Lovely red spot at the top. What a shame it should be only for important people. very unfair!
The snow-covered peak in the background just looks awesome.
