Photographer’s Note

There is a tradition in small towns of Northern Russia - to rinse linen and clothes in an ice-hole.

This is exactly not because of poverty - not only poor persons do so, I saw many people coming to a lake in good new cars and rinsing clothes. I think if somebody have enough money to buy a new car, one can buy a washing-machine also. So this is really an old tradition.

This shot was taken at lake Siverskoye in the center of Kirillov town, just near walls of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery.
