Photographer’s Note
The monastery is located near Kirillov. It was founded in 1544 by princess Efrosinja Staritskaja the aunt of Tsar Ioann Grozny (Ivan the Terrible). Historically Goritsky Monastery located remote from the capital was a place of an imprisonment of abandoned wives and out of favor female relatives. It is possible to find names of two wives of Ivan Grozny in monastic books: Anna Koltovsky and Maria Nagaja.
