"We all live in a green submarine, a green submarine..."
This is the S 56 Submarine, a part of the museum & memorial to the 'Fighters for the Soviet Power' in the Russian Far East. It's on the Vladivostok waterfront, & if you're so inclined, you can pay to go inside. I didn't.
Some other shots, I found on the web, to compare with:

And a workshop, with a fake blue sky, for Matthew.

You choose the best point to enjoy the perpsective through the green submarine straight to the clasic building.Very good lines and shapes as a composition!
Best wishes for the 2008!

I think the yellow one was more fun to be lived in, nevertheless this one looks impressive! Size is emphasized by the perspective between lamps and sub... Good sharpness and although the weather didn't make you any favors, colors came fine.
Happy 2008 to you and family!

I like the point of view and long perspective in the submarine that draws the eye to the interesting building in the background. Excellent clarity.

You chose a very nice angle, we see the submarine on a very lovely part green on a place where his is not dangerous.
Nice perspective and very real colour, very well done.
Thanks for sharing.

I heard and read about this museum, some interesting vessels are gathered there. But it's little too long way to see it from my Uttermost West of Russia (St-Petersburg) to Uttermost East of it (Vladivostok), 11 000 kilometers, ha! :)
Great shot, thanks to you from all the guys in black and golden (submariners)!

please "greenish" to keep the syllables. :-)
Good POV for a long shot of good details and a pity but reality for the sky. The red flag creates a good contrast to the overall green.

So this is the famous green submarine! I like the close in wide angle, which really makes the nose of this submarine look huge, and gives some interesting diagonal lines. There is not much you could do about the sky, but I don't find it too disturbing. Nice work!

Les fameux sous-marins russes, ils ont donné du fil à retordre lors de la guerre froide.
Une belle photo documentaire assortie d'une note bien humoristique.

Yes, I was saddened when I was not able to see the fab four looking through those portals! Technically, I am not greatly impressed with the photo because of the completely blank sky; it really needed some definition, texture or colour to complete the image. I know that your intentions were to photograph the subject itself and not the surrounds, and also acknowledge that the lighting situation was not ideal. DO you think more could have been done to enhance the sky, or were the conditions just not favorable (looks to be solidly overcast)? What I do like is the angle you have taken this at, the length becomes a good feature and the angled symmetry of the lights is effective. The distant car provides scale. A good piece, but it could have been better...

Hi Chris. Well composed image, the size and scale is made obvious but the POV and camera angle. Good sharpness and detail also. Oh and good blue sky WS ;-). Thanks for sharing.

A dynamic composition with this most unusual subject, not many full size submarine images around!
Well I guess this is not the most advanced submarine...
Well composed and good details!

Hi Chris, I like this one very much. Well composed and not easy to fit it all in. Interesting part of history behind this photograph. TFS. Murray.

I am surprised to see that I never commented on this image earlier as I was well of it before I ever visited Vladivostok. In fact it probably inspired us to go on a tour inside the submarine. We clambered through the round pressure doors and peered up a periscope but mostly we saw military items and photos with cyrillic descriptions only. We were only there for one day as we were on a cruise which began in Tiangin and ended in Vancouver. What motivated me to go on our first cruise ever was the possibility of visiting Vladivostok. In retrospect I can say it probably wasn't the highlight of the trip. I will have to return again to sample the pizzas and milkshakes. By the way your white sky resembles the white sky of our visit.
