Photographer’s Note
These two babushkas are hard at work on the car ferry which runs from Listvyanka to Port Baikal across where the Angara River flows out of Lake Baikal.
The Angara River is the only river which flows out of Lake Baikal - 336 rivers flow in. Lake Baikal is the world's deepest lake at 1637metres - and growing as it is formed by rifting tectonic plates. Lake Baikal is 636kms from north to south but only 60kms wide and holds nearly a fifth of the world's fresh unfrozen water.

Hello Marlene,
This is an interesting picture of daily life. These women work hard. They must be very strong physically. I like the scenery in the background with the hills and the colorful machinery. Very nice.
Warm wishes,

Hello Marlene!
I see that Russian word "babushka" is widely known :)
Nice picture, yes, it really shows daily life at Baikal.
And we see that women in my country sometimes have to do very hard work - such a gender equality here :(
Best regards from St Petersburg,
Igor

Babushkas - that means old ladies, right? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the gender is not an issue when it comes to hard work in Russia, especially in Siberia! Everybody works as hard as they can. Great work Marlene! Nice scenery and a great moment of life!!!
Best wishes,

Hello Marlene,
I wonder what made you to to Siberia?? :) I wouldn't ever dare to travel there.
Anyway, concerning the photo... good shot, good composition. Extremely true to life.
Just like we say here in Russia, "This would be very funny if this weren't so sad".
best regards from Moscow,
Elena

Hi Marlene,
Good observation of common life in Siberian hard circumstances.
Very good colours although the light wasn't perfect that day.
Best Regards

Well I don't see too much sadness here, these girls can be stronger than some men. At least this one at the left. And also, in the village can live nowadays about 5-10 persons, and no youngsters at all - they all are in the cities.
So... Well, it's interesting daily life photo, for sure!
