Photographer’s Note
The Baikal Amur Mainline or B.A.M., somewhere between Severobaikalsk, & Tynda. The almost never ending coniferous forest known as Taiga is visible here. The train was my home for 4 days. I travelled from Bratsk to Vladivostok.
Taken out of the open window of the train. I've cropped the out of focus section of the train on the right.

Hi Chris - I know where all those cities are! - so it is great to see your continuing series on the Trans Sib. I've been on some parts of the Trans Sib myself (but not the BAM) so it is great. The birch trees are a very dominant feature and the locomotive in the distance is good use of perspective. Clearly a summer time pic, as it would be v different in the winter. Well done.

Hi Chris. Considering you took this on a train the sharpness isn't too bad. You were able to use the track too perfection as a gently bending leading line. A grad ND filter might help here with that sky. tfs Chris.

I am aiming for a long train trip in 2009. My plan is to go from Saigon to Beijing and to Moscow by train and to continue to Lisbon if I am not tired of long days stuck in a train. I have already some info but I need much more.
I like your picture and the curving train composition is excellent. The scenery is fantastic and makes me wish even more to accomplish my plan. What can we do during a several days non stop journey? Can we get out of the train? Is it very busy? And how expensive is it?
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Chris,
the long curve with the train on the rails is half of the capture, good POV and framing for that impression. It looks like they work on that part. Good embedded in that natural landscape. The balustrade at the left seems to have damages from accidents.

Hi Chris.
Maybe I'd taken the picture with all the train but, anyway, it's a lovely picture.
I like the depth in the picture too.

Hi Chris,
Nice curve that leads ones focus ... well captured. Four days in a train ... man how did you survive :) I suppose if you see sceneries like this , then it was worth it. Well composed and good image quality. Well done! tfs

Hi Chris. Simple but rather interesting, this "out of the window" shot from the train traversing the wide Siberian landscape. The curving train cars and tracks work well to create a bending perspective and impression of depth.

Hi Chris,
Fascinating view, even on a cloudy weather. Your timing is optimal showing the long train on this curve. Interesting to see also the other track here. I guess such a lon line can't be double track all the way?

Bonjour, mon ami Chris,
Quatre jours de train, ce n'est pas rien ! ;o)
Bravo, Chris, d'avoir su saisir ce mouvement du train en forme de cercle.
La composition est fort bien réalisée et prise au bon moment.
Très bien fait, mon ami.

Hello Chris,
At least the trains are running there; here in France most of the services are closed due to strike and the strikers have now taken to sabotage to stop the remaining ones running ;-) Very good composition making good use of the curve to show us the train and the surrounding countryside. Good natural colours and definition.

This may not be your most artistic shot, but it gives a very good sense of place, and shows us what it is like to be a traveller in Siberia. You used the sweeping curve of the rail line well, taking us right around the frame and into the scene of endless forest. Nicely done!

Hello Chris,
I've always enjoyed viewing photos of trains from trains. The perspective can be extremely artful, the lines trailing off and converging in the distance, as you have here. It has been an education seeing Lake Baikal area through your camera.
Warm regards,

Namaste Chris
Beautiful landscape..the beauty enhanced by the curve of the track and the train, the front about to vanish behind the conifers. We also see a stream on the left FG. Good shot!
