A view of the lagoon, in front of Lake Baikal, just outside the town of Severobaikalsk, on the north west shore of this massive, banana shaped lake. The dachas or holiday homes are in the distance. I liked the yellow wildflowers contrasting against the reflected blue skylight.
"Dacha (Russian: да́ча) is a Russian word for seasonal or year-round second homes, located in the exurbs of Soviet and Russian cities. It is usually occupied part of the year by its owner or rented out to urban residents as a summer retreat. Dachas are very common in Russia, and are also widespread in some former republics of the Soviet Union."

The curving road across the lagoon makes for an interesting perspective; I like the inclusion of the solitary vehicle. Everything seems nicely placed in the frame. Interesting landscape.

Cher ami Chris,
Voilà un sujet très intéressant. L'intérêt de TE est manifeste grâce à ces photographies et à ces notes qui nous permettent de mieux appréhender les us et coutumes des pays.
Un excellent cadrage nous permettant de bénéficier d'une vue large.

Olá Chris, nice green view from a good vantage POV. I like the diagonal of the pinetrees in FG and the road makes a great leading line to the lake. Interesting sight of the dachas, as well.

A nice northern tale of soft colours.

Another good scene here from the shores of this great body of water. This cluster of houses seems to be huddled together for warmth, in anticipation for the cold days ahead. I like how the line of pine trees interrupts a direct view of the water. My only criticism, perhaps a little too much FG in this example, it tends to dominate the photo. The worth of this photo is in its ability to enrich TE's location diversity - you summarize this region well.

The curving road across the lagoon makes for an interesting perspective, this leads us very depth to the background.
Almost to the Lake Baikal.
Very well composition and good presentation.
Thanks for sharing.

well presented lower area around the lake by this higher POV and the diagonal view. The clear front part with the grass and flowers is very attracting, but also the good light and glancing on the water is lovely. The dachas are called in Germany Datschen. This was also used in the time of the GDR for weekend homes there.
Lieben Gruss, Ulf

No people in the world love the outdoors as much as the Russians, they go there every chance they get and take full advantage of all the recreational opportunities. Great shot showing the huge collection of dachas set against the vast lake. Thanks for sharing!

You know, this is something I like a lot here in TE: we see the entire world. Siberia is something soooo far, soooo different for me that I can always take a time to see it. Thank you for sharing this!

A good high POV on this little town, bright light well managed and vivid colors and very sharp details. I like the framing including the diagonal foreground

very nice panoramic view of the lagoon with a lot of dachas to cover the entirely region until Lake Baikal.I like the greenery in the right as the vivid colours and the light of the scene. The roar that penetrates the place create a great depth in the capture. Informative your note too.

Superbe prise avec des lumières et un style que l'on reconnait de suite Chris.
Une photo avec beaucoup de profondeur, j'aime ce genre de coin paraissant si calme.

Good morning Chris!
Great composition from the Russian cottage country. Nice yellow wildflowers, beautiful view from the hill at the dachas and Lake Bajkal. Thanks for sharing

I've heard & read about Dachas a lot, but seeing them for the first time thanks to your picture. The road running thru the centre is a great leadin, as we see the conglomeration of the dachas as they appear like a modern camping ground by the lake. Do you have closeup shots of this place as well?
Emile (20348) 2008-04-19 8:02
Excellent point of view capturing the curved road taking our eyes to the interesting town in front of the lake, very well captured, good colors and clarity.
Well done. Wish you a nice weekend.

Hi Chris, I had imagined the dachas to be isolated in forest, it's a surprise for me to see so many of them touching each other... But of course there is the proximity of the lake !
Very nice view, I like the high horizon that gives us plenty to see on the photo!
