..actually it's a very familiar sight, the instantly recogniseable domes of St Basils Cathedral and one of the Kremlin towers, taken from my room at the Hotel Rossiya in a rainstorm, not original but I like the contrast. If according to rumour the hotel has been demolished, it has a "historic" quality until something else gets built there. No polariser here, but probably UV filter used, I zoomed in to avoid the ugly plastic scaffolding defiling the lower parts of the cathedral.

Wonderful shot. Congratulations. I like the colour saturation and the focusing especially.
beijokense (498) 2006-01-30 19:46
The saturation and contrast produce a very pleasant result.
benkrut (2407) 2006-01-30 19:57
I like the tight crop so we can admire only the colorful cupolas.
Probably I shouldn't post a picture next to yours because you're gonna get all the points :)
PS. Have you already been to UAE? Waiting for photos!
spence (65) 2006-01-30 20:04
Beautiful, beautiful architectural shot, Tan. Lovely contrast and superb colours against the dark sky. Great crop. Love it.
royh (581) 2006-01-30 20:05
Great shot, the colors are very vivid and overall with the dramatic sky makes for a very crisp photo. Nice crop too.
maphoto (8082) 2006-01-30 20:29
Colorful shot Tan, under this threatening sky, well framed and very sharp, well done.
ksoloduc (324) 2006-01-30 20:40
love it- love the colors, the sharpness, it is hard to imagine those onion looking towers are for real huh?
Anyways I thing it does justice to the pearls of russian architecture and ornaments
rakeshgupta (2672) 2006-01-30 20:59
I lile the sharpening and contrast setting here. The building part is looking beautiful and the color tone over there is excellent. The dark background is giving the foregound an extra weightage.
Thanks for sharing this good photo.
singuanti (15250) 2006-01-30 21:12
Hi Tan. As usual excellent saturation. It is impressive that you did that without a polarizer. It looks a little tricky setting the focus point here and you did well. Awesome clarity too. Another impressive shot Tan!
Cormac (26565) 2006-01-30 21:35
Wow - the intensity of the colours is amazing! The decoration and detail in the Russian architecture is incredible, and even overwhelming when you see it in person. This is one of the few shots I've seen that shows that. I like the contrast between the bright domes and the dark background - very dramatic!
orcha (190) 2006-01-30 23:48
Nice shot here Ilike the way the beight colors stand out against the darker clouds.

Wonderful Kremlin view! Many details, bright contrast colors and storm atmosphere.
As usual escellent sharpness, light and colors.
CliffW (2377) 2006-01-31 1:11
Wow Tan - not easy to provide a new take on a well know subject, but yours is very good and not the same as I've seen before. Most try to include the entire structure for context, while you have gone for detail and assumed some familiarity on the part of the viewer. Nice work!
marjan (6279) 2006-01-31 2:17
Hi Tan, very nice shot, excelent coloures and terific motive . shortly BRAVO. TFS
Gerrit (52097) 2006-01-31 2:19

A very strong picture.
Thanks and regards, Gerrit

Tan, you seem to have secret agreement with devil when it comes to the light, as nearly all of your pictures have such a fantastic light. This is exquisite light on this famous St. Basisls Cathedral with great dark, stormy weather. Great shot as always. L.
IvarsU (2505) 2006-01-31 3:12
Hi,Tan Yilmaz !
One of the best Moscow pictures, what I ever saw! The point of takong the picture mekes the difference. Hotel Rossija is perfect place...

ChrisJ (116058) 2006-01-31 3:38
Wonderful graphism of these imposing & colorful Muscovite towers aqainst the navy blue sky. Good sharpness & pov. Well done!
banyanman (7789) 2006-01-31 4:55
As you say Tan, not original, but I am a sucker for these shots everytime someone posts one. The contrast of these bold colours against the storm clouds is very impressive. You seem to have the ability to produce richly saturated colours that still look real, so that's probably what makes this one stand out from the others. Cheers . . . David
rbcy1974 (20758) 2006-01-31 5:00
Excellent contrast, beautiful stormy sky, this are excellent conditions to photograph in and you have really taken advantage of them,
lukie (0) 2006-01-31 5:00
a fine piece of architecture very well captured here. Beautiful colours and a good sharpness. The dark blue-grey sky accentuates even more the towers.

Great picture, Tan! Good contrast between the towering basilica's tops and the dark, rain-loaded clouds in the back. Good details and sharp!
hyasar (7773) 2006-01-31 7:31
renkler harika, hele fondaki gokyuzunun kasvetli hali inanilmaz. Bunu nasil yapiyorsun, bu inanilmaz renklere nasil ulasiyorsun gercekten merak ediyorum.

Fırtına havasının muhteşem renkleri bunlar, zamanlaman harika olmuş Kaptan..Sırf renkler yeterli bu imajda bence..
PS. Exif'i anlayabildin mi? Bir sorun olursa her zaman yardıma hazırım.. Adobe Photoshop CS2 ve Windows Xp yok mu sende? o zaman işin biraz daha zahmetli olabilir..

I was looking for your post yesterday and somehow missed it unless I was sleeping. The colours are absolutely amazing and stand out so well against the dark sky (do you order them like a pizza ?). What details ?

Merhaba Tan. Wow, that is a really great shot of St. Basils... it is so sharp and clear. I like the level PoV... you had a great room! That damned plastic was there when i saw it as well. excellent work.
Ann75 (0) 2006-01-31 22:12
Wow Tan...great shot!
I love those vibrant colors against the dark and dramatic sky. Great perspective and a great composed photo. The sharpness in this photo is great as well the amazing detail. Well done, I love it!
Roly (2024) 2006-02-01 1:16
Wow, fantastic colors once again. With such amazing performance from film, I wonder if you will be pleased with the 20D. Well, you probably will, it seems that not too many have complained. The bright colors of the domes stand out magnificently against the dark sky. I have seen such sky, but never managed to get close to a sun lit subject with the camera and the threatening sky in the background. I have exactly the same suspicion Lucie was writing about...
faubry (35447) 2006-02-01 4:36

jbweasle (9393) 2006-02-01 8:28

A superb capture of these colourful domes. The variation of hues and patterns mesmerizes the senses. A magical scene that is very much enhanced by the swirling, textured blue cloud sky. Superb clarity. Congratualtions on this one, Tan.
alvaraalto (16148) 2006-02-01 16:53
The perfect mix. Beautiful colourful towers in the sun in the foreground and the dark blue sky behind for the perfect and thrilling background.
BlaiseCendrars (0) 2006-02-01 17:22
So you left Sergiev Posad for Moscow again and look what you found..! What a lovely view of the most brilliant of the fairytale Russian architecture. The sky is a monster, and displays a wonderful contrast to St Basil's and the Kremlin.
Guima (136) 2006-02-02 6:57
fantastic colours here. and one nice "post" of the russian traditional arquitecture!
izuminka (930) 2006-02-02 8:04

Thank you for your response,
RGatward (20086) 2006-02-02 10:37
Stunning shot Tan, and a PoV hard to achieve, both cost and luck (unless you knew what room to ask for in advance). Goes in my theme.
elmec (12210) 2006-02-02 11:43
That's real east exotica!
Very beautiful just like from the fairy tale!
Wonderful colours - especially on the dark sky!

I'm a bit late on that one, but I like this superb collection of exotic shapes and colors against the dramatic sky, strong and impacting, did you exercize your Ribeauville-PP skills here ?
Have a nice day,
peter1892 (1681) 2006-02-03 10:01
Hi Tan, good work, lots of colour & contrast. Also, I think it was a good decision to leave out the scaffolding!
bibiweb (8) 2006-02-03 14:15

Incroyable comme cette architecture ressort de la photo. Le ciel sombre et ces teintes sur l'avant...superbe atmosphère.
Cadrage original et bien fait.
Dr_Nibbles (283) 2006-02-05 18:50
Very uncommon POV, but looks really great. And the dark sky is a great contrast to the already unrealistic seeming colours of the Cathedral (though I know it's their real colors).
Really good shot.
andante (7092) 2006-02-05 20:32
A most excellent capture your have presented here. Hats off to you. The stormy sky gives such a great contrast, and adds to the saturation of the colors of the towers. Well done.
keribar (43841) 2006-02-06 14:26
Indeed, you seem to have an agreement with the Lord, and he provides an incredible light for you. Even if you have enhanced the colors on the computer, the picture is still extraordinary like most of them anyway.
Best - Izzet

un petit tour dans ta galerie pour revoir quelques superbes photos sur lesquelles je ne m'étais pas arrêté.

Couleurs superbes, contrastes entre ce ciel et ces lumières.
Une netteté incroyable.
Un résultat stupéfiant.

It will sound simple, but I love that colorful architecture which make me thinking of the tale of "the Arabian Nights". The dark sky is constrating well to the towers and the details in it and POV are great...
andreineamtu (466) 2006-09-26 19:10
beautiful, powerful colors, and very nice composition. maybe taken from a lower angle, to loose the other house roofs, just the towers and the sky. very nice, it expresses a lot..
