Photographer's Note

Today everyone who goes to the Domodedovo airport (the largest airport of the capital) or arriving through this gate to Moscow, can see the breathtaking panoramic view of the Holy Trinity Temple. You can observe the majestic multi-domed temple with its belfry, chapel, towers and the bridge gate connecting it to the Kashirskoe highway.

This is the Temple of the Holy Life-giving Trinity which was built on the 1,000 year anniversary of the Christening of Russia. It was built approximately one year ago in Orehovo-Borisovo which is in the southern part of the city.

The decision to start construction of the temple was confirmed in 1988, however because it was necessary to restore some of the relics and artifacts construction of the temple was postponed. Finally, on September 1, 2001 the most holy Patriarch Aleksiy II preformed services and construction of the temple began. On May 19, 2004, it was ceremoniously opened and Patriarch Aleksiy II consecrated the new temple.

Some history: The year 988 was a pivotal year in Russian history, for that is when this country adopted Christianity. Prince Vladimir, the sovereign ruler of Olden Russia, was christened in the Crimean town of Hersoness, which in those times belonged to Byzantium. At his decree, all of his subjects, also adopted Christianity. Thus, in the 10th century Kievskaya Rus (Russia, Ukraina) became a country of Orthodox Christians.
